Players I wanted to draft

This year
Denzel Perryman or Shane Ray for OLB instead of Anthony
Trey Waynes or Collins instead of Peat

Looking back why didn't we get Parker? Miami got him and they're not even using him.

2014
Dee Ford-was he overlooked because of his comments about Clowney? Well, I'm a gamecock fan and he was right!!! He would have been great for us. Look what he's doing in KC.
Kelvin Benjamin-The other alternative to Ford. I liked him better than Cooks because of his size. Cooks was second to him based on where we were picking.

Our scouts have picked the most unpredictable players instead of just taking the big name and hoping it sticks. I don't know of many first round picks outside of QB that have been failures in a while other than the underwhelming 2013 draft. Almost all of them from last year have contributed.

I felt the Anthony pick was a reaction to Beasley and even Hau'oli pick was a reaction to Shaq. Maybe we should have taken Shaq over Peat?

I mean our draft wasn't bad but Peat was a wasted pick and I don't think what we drafted are game changers.

Well Collins was able to be drafted at anytime. So I think maybe Parker I wanted not sure.

So after 3 games he was a wasted pick? Wow.

Lol, wasted pick? Have you seen Strief play this year? The Tackle positions are set for the next 10 years.

Players you wanted to draft?

Since when do you own an NFL team?

Re: Players I wanted to draft

OLB Dupree instead of Peat.
Keep Anthony.
TE Max Williams over Kikaha.
DE Anderson over Grayson.
OT Clemmings over Williams.
OLB Emanuel over Tull.
Keep Davison.
Keep Swann.
Keep Murphy.

5 Players contributing from the draft is good. 5 more UDFA's made the team. 12 rookies (counting Breaux) made the team. Tull and Williams can have impact next year if healthy. It's tough so far this year but the young guys have potential. With the possibility of picking high next year, the Saints will have the opportunity to get some impact they need.

If they only would listen to me. I can't pick a CB. for crap but the rest of the team I'm not so bad.

Re: Players I wanted to draft

only 1 draft choice I would've veto, trading Stills for Ellerbe and P.J. Williams. I would've preferred them to trade down with Miami and pick P.J.Williams but with what I know now(emergence of Swann) I preferred they used that 3rd rd pick on Sammie Coates

the pick should have been

1 CB Marcus Peters

Let this be a lesson to all of us.

We don't draft head cases Hagan.

We create them here, sign them to huge contracts and then pay them to play for another team.

Anyone see the stat for the Packers last night 33 guys on the packers roster were drafted by the packers 33 of 53 ! And look packers are n the championship talk every year...it would be nice if the saints had that kinda turnaround n draft picks....

They've averaged about 9 to 10 picks per draft for the last 10 years. That helps.

Draft? Draft? Isn't that what you get when you leave a window open? Ours closed last season and is being nailed shut as we speak.

Re: Players I wanted to draft

Let's slow down for a second, was the draft this season perfect? No.

But it was a damn sight better than what we've done in nearly ten years...

And while I'm disappointed Peat came in out-of-shape and is not starting considering his draft status (hate that hypocritical BS rule about allowing Pac10 school draftees to finish classes before participation), I still think he's going to be an outstanding talent...

That said, we had one helluva draft...

In reverse...

You've got a rookie KR/PR in Marcus Murphy) who's made good in less than three weeks into the season (if you're just giving props to points and not overall field position which he's already impacted)...

You have a legitimate starting nickelback in Damian Swann who's already better than all but one veteran who's out injured and has brought some swagger to the secondary...

You've got a defensive tackle, nose tackle in the rotation in Tyeler Davison who allow little to no drop-off when he rotates in the front line...

We stole what was considered a third round talent at OLB/DE in Davis Tull who everyone knew he was going to need a season to recuperate with a fifth round pick...

Got a first round talent cornerback in the third round because of a rookie blunder who's going to add quality depth to our secondary, if not start when healthy...

Got a potential starter at quarterback to develop this season...

Got what will be an All-Rookie Outside Linebacker in Hau'oli Kikaha, who's got a relentless motor...

Got a starting Middle Linebacker in Stephone Anthony who started right away and is already better than anything we've had in the middle since Vilma - and he's just learning...

And then there's Peat...

That's not a bad draft class, and you've got to see where we are with them in the second half of the season, next season, then the third year...

We've got a great haul...

Re: Players I wanted to draft

We took Peat and the odds are in our favor he should be ready no later than next year. so be it. If he starts all is good

now we need at the very least one more OG. Another OG that can fill in at center gives even more flexibility. Then again Tim and the others may develop.

That is what this year seems to be all about. youth developing into starters

Re: Players I wanted to draft

Who gives a rats ass what you think. Three games and you already given up on our picks.. Be for real. We have lots of good young talent it is just raw talent needing reps. If you are so good at figuring drafts maybe a team should hire you. Bet you wouldn't make it long. So many negative nellies on here. We have been in all three games with lot's of players hurt and not playing. This is giving some of these players playing time and that's a plus. Brandin Cooks is fine he will do well. let me explain something. 1 our QB's have had little to no time to throw deep. 2. We have three young guys out there it will get better. Look at our starters on offense and defense, you will see a lot of young bodies out there. We will be fine. Right now we need to put together a game a full game play 60 mins of good football. That goes for players and coaches. Don't give up on our Saint's I know most of you are spoiled. Be patient... WHO DAT!!!!!

Could not agree more.

Good post JP.

Its way too early to judge, but we can speculate.

I think its our best draft class (including UDFA's) since 2006, and has the potential to exceed that one as well.

Before this past eek, they said Anthony was leading us in tackles... is anyone really disappointed in Anthony? Looking at Strief's play I can see exactly why we drafted peat, I think he will be absolutely fine

Anthony still has a ways to go before he's in the Vilma class, and probably won't even be in the Curtis Lofton class until he has several more games under his belt.

But its obvious he has talent and will most likely progress toward one of the better MLB's in the league.

It isn't about giving up on the saints it's about immediate impact. I didn't knock the draft, but Parker would be a big help right now FOR COOKS. Cooks cannot beat big corners and as long as Payton has him as a wideout, that will be the case. Waynes would be a big help to our secondary with Lewis hurt. Perryman would be a help to our dline. With those guys, we might actually have a win. No wait we would have all of the wins.

jeanpierre 09-29-2015 10:30 PM

Re: Players I wanted to draft

Criticism of Cooks selection is fair, hell, I made the following points when to moved up to take Cooks...

We've had too many other needs to combine to high picks into one player...

He's a great player with a great motor, but he's small and we needed an "x" receiver who's minimum 6' 2" to compete with the now more physical cornerbacks (i.e. Seattle, Carolina)...

But we've also got other needs and you can't pass on other players at other positions just because we didn't get WR right - think Detroit tried that a few years ago and that GM set 'em back years and passed on some great players...

Cooks is going to be a dynamic weapon, but we had more basic needs that should have taken priority and Jeff Ireland came in and stabilized us so that we had better draft management...

That this year's draft class will go down as one of our best in franchise history is directly attributable to Ireland's presence (per Coach Payton's public statments) that Ireland will keep things calm and make sure we are better in our draft management...

There's a wide receiver on the block right now and he would be a BIG help to us.
