And they're just now figuring that out week 3 of the regular season .....finally came to their senses maybe coaching/scouting is a problem you would've thought this would had happen already why keep him for this long

Hicks just went from an 0-3 team to an 3-0 team, which might make it to the super bowl again.

So the Saints acquired TE Michael Hoomanawanui?

Can I buy some vowels?

This keeps up, we're going to be throwing Cajun Luaus...

He's been cut/released/injured often...

Hope he can stick...

He's obviously worth more to us than Hicks and isn't he just a blocking specialist?

Hicks apparently has been outplayed by younger guys on the D-line and thus became expendable. We used that fact and went and got somebody that might help the team short term. Sounds like the right thing to do if you ask me.

Time will tell what kind of player Hicks is. And if he goes on to NE and plays well then it's yet another failure by our own organization.

Good point, I think we have an idea how this one plays out.
One thing is faith is very low for our D staff. And some players
flourish on other teams, well except Bushrod and a few others.

For his size and athletic ability, the guy under performed. Plus, being benched last Sunday, clearly the guy has an attitude problem. All of this in a contract year where guys normally go all out. Also, he's not a 4-3 DE.

Re: Saints trade Akiem Hicks for Patriots Michael Hoomanawanui

Makes no sense to me I would have much rather gotten a draft pick. He will be gone next year this was just another poor decision from the front office giving into what SP's and his offense wants. You got the worst defense going but hey let's make it worse I fully understand. These guys are insane

The crazy thing is, Hoo might be the best blocking tight end the Saints have had in my time watching the Saints (since the Jim Mora era). I don't think I'm forgetting anyone ...

Re: Saints trade Akiem Hicks for Patriots Michael Hoomanawanui

The real winner in this trade is hicks.
The guy gets to go to a superbowl winner that is known for getting the best out of its players. I predict pro bowl for hicks next year.

Another dumb move by our front office/payton. We should be getting rid of our coaches that cant coach potential if it were sitting next to them. All this for yet another blocking TE... yes folks he is a blocker.

From a friend who is pats fan: Humanavamanui is a blocking TE, good hands but he is slow and creates no separation.

Re: Saints trade Akiem Hicks for Patriots Michael Hoomanawanui

So, we pushed more money into next year in the hope that Brees will pull a Brady for us for a trade of 2 meaningless players? An offensive lineman could do this guy's job. Hicks will do great in NE, we all know that. Our new TE will suck, we all know that. Personally, I hope Benson cleans house after this season. We have gone stale and lost discipline and I'm tried of watching the lathargicness of it all. Sean lost his swag. Byrd, Graham, Galette, and Brees are draining us dry.

I've seen too much football to think there is any hope for the Saints doing anything this season and beyond without major changes. The party was fun, but it's come to an end. And, yes, I will still root for my team. 0-3 with 3 NFC losses and 2 division losses, an even weaker D line and nothing from the TE position. That's not a hole that our team has the character to climb out of.

Yeah, keep telling yourself that Jimmy, glad it is going so well for you since you "got out of there", whatever.

Hicks being benched screams issues, and I don't remember anyone singing his praises this year. Hell, if we lose an ineffective DE and replace him with a ineffective DE, but pick up a good blocking TE, sounds like a good trade to me.

The D staff did not just walk in off the street and take the jobs. They were "Hired". Time to look at the real problem here. SP and Loomis have to be held accountable for their failings.

lumm0x 10-01-2015 09:28 AM

Re: Saints trade Akiem Hicks for Patriots Michael Hoomanawanui

In my opinion Hicks had lots of potential. He did make splash plays just not consistently. Which shows he has a higher ceiling, and yes NE will get more out of him than we did because they have a better coaching organization than we do. He very likely will become a solid contributor in their defense.

This TE is nothing more than a filler body at a weak depth position and the trade does nothing beyond getting rid of a guy who was walking at end of season. It's our fault we can't develop talent. He has some.

Because the Patriots have intelligent coaches that know how to use players and how to coach them. We have a bunch of pretender coaches that are leaching off of wins delivered 5 years ago.

It night be but you have to ask yourself why are so many players saying stuff like that lately...this past off season we got rid of some key players who were said to be cancerous. This leads me to believe that we really have some big issues in our management because you don't hear that from players who leave or get traded from orginazations like the Patriots.

Re: Saints trade Akiem Hicks for Patriots Michael Hoomanawanui

Now i know why Hicks was on the bench.

Michael Hoomanawanui FA in 2016 no biggie .946

Hicks FA in 2016 cap 1.25

Hicks would coast to much to resign next year given the cap the move make sense to an extent. Next year is all the cheap pieces the saints can find to fill the roster

Now Rob has been talked about but the Pats also added Rufus Johnson, who the pats really like. Remember him? our sixth round (183rd overall) pick in 2014. I wont even talk about Jenkins or Harper starting or any other of our cast off from the defense that are still playing.

Look there are some serious issues going on with the saints and the defensive side of the ball since Rob signed on.

Think about what we let walk due to the cap and then look at what we signed. Draft picks shown the door also. To make personnel moves based on cap then turn around and sign players at a higher cap hit to fill the same position is not really a business move. So the FO is out of the spot light IMO

IMO this is all about Rob getting the players he wants and getting rid of players he does not want. results so far has been pi$$ poor to say the least.

I will enjoy yet another saints cast off on the Pats roster to get my nose rubbed in it yet again by my friends that are pats fans.

I don't think this has anything at all to do with what Rob Ryan wants. I don't think Rob has much of a say at all over personnel. Why would they rely on a DC's opinion of a player when its likely he'll be fired at years end.

I think this has Payton, Ireland and Loomis fingerprints all over it.

Remember, Loomis is not a personnel guy. Loomis is an accountant. He knows how to work the numbers to an advantage better than anyone else in the league. But, talent evaluation is being made by Payton and Ireland, I suspect.

Agree 100%. Loomis is the perfect GM, as long as he lets his personnel guys make the decisions, which I think he does.

And I think that currently the voices in his decision making ear are primarily Jeff Ireland and Sean Payton. I thin the only time Rob Ryan may have any input is when Player A and Player B are equal.

I know we banged heads on this before so it is no biggie

If this were "totally" true the saints deserve to go down the toilet based on some of the worse management organization of any multi million dollar business in history.

Sure there are a few times were you gotta take a move on the chin and move on but not every single time.

90% of the time I say Rob has pretty much the final say on a move. especially one like these.

At the very most 10% are out of his hands.

The same goes for the draft. his input on defensive players is huge on draft day. He has the scouts do his home work like any other senior management official then he makes the final wish lists and sells it to the board.

No way will I let Rob take anything less than 75% of the blame for any moves on defense and IMO that is being nice to him. 85% is real IMO nut 75% will do
