Saints kicker calls regulation miss “unacceptable,” “unfortunate”

Of course, the rash of high-profile misses around the league might make it hard for the Saints to line up a workout if they wanted to (the kicker bus is definitely going to be rolling around the league this week). But Hocker can at least point to his emergency punting duties as a positive, after Thomas Morstead was injured.

They weren't exactly the words I used when he missed, but the words are not suitable for this site. Thank god for CJ spiller.

I seldom get upset but I started dropping F bombs. Hindsight, he did hit a 51 and also had a beautiful punt. Missing a 30 though for a pro, all I can say is it better not happen again for a long long time.

Problem is it has been happening all year on EXP by a lot of kickers. He is a rookie, ill cut him some slack.

WOW, I just read the site. Someone posted we should of kept Hartley! I feel like I lost 10 IQ points reading that!

LMAO I am not ready to give the kid the boot just yet.

ok he missed nailing the 30

But he did nail the 50

That happens to all of us

I think Hocker is gonna be fine, I like the kid. All his kicks seem to be straight, he doesn't have that Hartley hook which is a big plus. He just misjudged it, he'll be fine.

I agree. That 51 yarder was huge, and he nailed it dead center. I'm hoping it's less of a confidence issue and more about focus. Maybe he's trotting out there with the mindset that he already has it in the bag and mailed it in. While that isn't exactly excusable either, it is something that any reasonable person would learn from after the first f up. I give him a pass this time. Admittedly much easier to do because we still won.. and it just so happened that I needed one more Brees td to win my fantasy game.

I agree, no reason why we released Morton Anderson years ago.

He was also having to punt on top of kick field goals. We need to quit putting the blame on everything but the receiving offense, which needs work.

I like the attitude, Hartley would of been drinking on Bourbon St after that kind of miss

Bottom Line Question: Do you trust Hocker to be our kicker when the game is on the line?

I was praising Hocker all game and then he missed. Kicks were sraight, punt was excellent and then................................ I still like the guy, he's beating himself up for the miss, might come out better in the long run.

Well you live and die with your kicker been a bit of a revolving door here.
With kickers it's all a mental game and seems to be percentages. SP does not have a great track record not to mention a love hate relationship.

Re: Saints kicker calls regulation miss “unacceptable,” “unfortunate”

It was an invaluable lesson learned, one because we still won the game, and two because that is an experience in humility that will never be forgotten.
The real question is how much that will affect him when he is put into the same scenario, as to just how he handles it.

I think he'll be fine. He's young. I'm sure every kicker has missed a kick like that.

Re: Saints kicker calls regulation miss “unacceptable,” “unfortunate”

True, very young and probably really nervous. I was looking at the Falcon's kicker Ryan's stats. He's one of the best but also 40 yrs old and was really average to good most of his career. His stats improved later in his career. Main thing he did a lot right that game, including a sweet punt.

I didn't think Hocker would win the job over Hopkins.

skymike 10-06-2015 09:45 PM

Re: Saints kicker calls regulation miss “unacceptable,” “unfortunate”

The most important thing a kicker can do, is make the last kick of the game.
Make the 4th Quarter kick.
If you cant do that, especially a 30 yarder, I got no use for you.

People talk sh&$ about Hartley, but he made the one that counted, didnt he?

Re: Saints kicker calls regulation miss “unacceptable,” “unfortunate”

Like DAnno said. I think we might have another Hartley. Hartley 2.0 that is. Can make the long ones but cannot hit the broad side of a barn inside 30. Hope hes not another head case.

Kickers that miss chip shots under pressure.

The other One that counted was the miss against the Falcons and all the other ones after.

wow we about to go ballistics on hocker, well well lets see how long Hopkins goes without a miss. didn't he choke in a preseason game that settled paytons mine. its done with paytons already got someone in his sights im sure if hocker wide lefts again.they need to forget about an extra point, its gone its a 30 yard field goal now. they have to get that xtra point craap out of their mines and it will get boring again. from the fine lines of S.T. goo dae
