Saints will stay with kicker Zach Hocker
I'm glad that Payton wasn't the Saints head coach when Morton was our kicker!
According to Fox's Mike Garafolo, the Saints are staying put with kicker Zach Hocker for now. New Orleans brought free agent kickers Randy Bullock and Kai Forbath in for workouts on Wednesday. Both kickers did well, but no contract was offered at this time. Reportedly, Bullock made all of his kicks while Forbath missed one field goal from 53 yards out but did hit from 55 yards. Despite their success, Hocker retains his job at the moment. Update: Per ESPN's Field Yates Kyle Brindza also worked out for Saints on Wednesday. Saints will stay with kicker Zach Hocker |

Glad they're staying with the kid. Hell Graham didn't do terrible but he had me ****ting bricks when he lined up for an XP or a FG.

Good move.
Every other attempt of his seems to split the uprights down the middle. |

The guy has a big leg, he'll be fine.

Re: Saints will stay with kicker Zach Hocker
Like someone else said on another thread, his kicks are straight, they don't duck hook. The kick he missed Sunday Night just started on the left side and basically stayed there. I think if he was 5 yards further back it would have drifted inside the uprights though.

Re: Saints will stay with kicker Zach Hocker
They need to put up a bullseye target and have the long snapper practice aiming for the red dot. Of course they won't realistically always be 100% perfect aim into the holder's hands, but I've been noticing a lot of times that McCown has to either reach up high, or out to the left or right, or down low for the ball. The snaps are coming in at a wildly different place, every time. Which can affect the kicker's timing, his distance, and even his aim.
Instead of catching punts between the inflatable Coke bottles, they should have a long snapping contest at halftime of the games, and if the random guy from the stands does better than Justin Drescher, put him in there and save some money! |

The kid is still nervous no doubt but he's got a good leg. He just needs NFL experience.

Re: Saints will stay with kicker Zach Hocker
These effing head case kickers. They need to take a friggen page out of someone like Justin Tucker's practice book. That dude plays the wind when he kicks...knows where the ball is going and plays the wind. We should have practice drills that force the K to try different scenarios. That way they aren't thinking, it's instinct.
I liken it to how I prepare for bowhunting. sure, when I practice I have a rangefinder and wind checker. But I practice so many scenarios that when the time comes to actually draw on a deer, it's all instinctive. I'm not ranging distances or even thinking of anything when the times comes. I just do it. |
