Southern California interested in Sean Payton, NFL Network reports
1 Attachment(s)
Southern California is interested in Saints coach Payton for their vacant head football coach position, according to the NFL Network.
USC fired coach Steve Steve Sarkisian last week. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted on Sunday: "Name to consider for #USC's coaching search: #Saints coach Sean Payton. Trojans are interested & Payton's daughter is at school 30 mins away... "One bonus for Sean Payton: With all the talk of a potential coach "trade" there would be no compensation for #USC. He could just go." http://imgick.nola.com/home/nola-med...651-mmmain.jpg read more |

If he is looking to rebuild a program he should just stay here.
And as a USC fan, they should fire Haden before worrying about a coach. |
Re: Southern California interested in Sean Payton, NFL Network reports
Hands off SP, he's a our HC and you can't have him!
GEAUX SAINTS!!! |
Re: Southern California interested in Sean Payton, NFL Network reports
THe AD there is a moron. They had someone that could coach, recruit and had high character, Ed Ogeron, former Ole Miss HC. He was interim HC after the previous guy got fired and led them to several victories. USC doesn't deserve a good HC.

Re: Southern California interested in Sean Payton, NFL Network reports
The whole report is Bull Sh!t. Actually every report is. What's that, like 4 teams he is interested in and vice versa. The NFL Network and ESPN are a joke.

Re: Southern California interested in Sean Payton, NFL Network reports
I'm not saying one way or the other, but the curiosity of who our next coach will be already has me intrigued... Whenever that may be, of course

Re: Southern California interested in Sean Payton, NFL Network reports
I'm surprised that anyone would want our washed up burned out coach.

We all know his family is in Dallas and taking the USC job won't change his travel, to the contrary it will make his commute further and take a lot more time coming out of LAX for sure. The report only said USC was interested in him, not that he was or they even contacted him. RUMOR

Oh well.

Re: Southern California interested in Sean Payton, NFL Network reports
It wouldn't shock me if it happened to be honest.
If it does happen, we found Payton when he was just a playcaller for Dallas, I'm confident we'd find someone else. |

Re: Southern California interested in Sean Payton, NFL Network reports
With his son living in Dallas, he ain't moving to California. Plus he would have to spend more time away from his son on the recruiting trail. If he leaves the Saints before Drew retires it would be to an NFL team like Dallas or Indy.

Re: Southern California interested in Sean Payton, NFL Network reports
If you really listen to what Sean has said over the years, I think he is really enamored with the NFL level of things, and I don't really get a feeling there is very much interest from Payton in anything except pro NFL ball. Notice how many times he says stuff in his comments like "our game" "at this level" "in this league" etc.
To me those type of comments and the way he says them, it sounds like someone who is very proud to be there at the pinnacle of the sport (the top level, the NFL). He's never said anything I've heard, that makes me think he would have any interest in going backwards professionally back down to the college level. Even though the pay is good at colleges, it's not as good as being the highest paid coach in the NFL! Payton makes more than Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh, you name it...he's got 'em beat. After playing ever-so-briefly in the pros in the '80s, he seems to have pretty single-mindedly slugged through the minor assistant coaching positions at the college level, just to get back to the NFL locker room, in terms of his overall career path. I don't see it happening. |
Re: Southern California interested in Sean Payton, NFL Network reports
Sounds like there's three other guys in the mix ahead of Payton, if Sean's even being seriously considered at all,.

All those Southern California college girls. LOL. He would be like the recent coaches, out quickly. And the next paternity would be real. :)

Re: Southern California interested in Sean Payton, NFL Network reports
We were looking for a coach when we found Payton. With Drew as our QB we should be able to draw a high quality coach.
