I heard from a buddy at Mardi Gras while down in NO that Aaron Brooks is going to HOLD OUT if the Saints fail to renogotiate his contract before the season. It seems Aaron feels that he is deserving of a TRUE top 5 contract, and that his pittily$36 million no longer fits that category. AB believes that he is in the same realm as Manning, Culpepper, and McNabb. He thinks his development and success is being held back by a team with poor coaches and underacheiving players. He also thinks that his ability to make money in endorsements is greatly effected by the small market and Delhomme-biased fans of New Orleans. He wants the team to move to LA, but in lieu of that, he will demand a big money contract similar to the $100 million one Peyton Manning recently received. The guy who told me this works for the Zephyrs, is constantly down on Airline, knows a number of executives and other officials with the Saints, and is highly plugged into the professional sports market in N.O. In fact, he met with Hornets officials when the team moved, but they ultimately brought their existing people that work in his capacity.

So what do you guys think? Is Aaron Brooks worth Peyton Manning money? Can you believe that this guy is demanding $100 million??!!!"

Don\'t see the team getting rid of him unless he gets busted like Q. Carter and I don\'t see him as a top 5 - didn\'t he prove that over the last two seasons? Did\'t he prove that in his decision making in almost every game last season???

I think there is a lot of room for optimism that the new QB coach might be able to further refine AB\'s ability and teach him how to make good decisions and LEAD!!!

He\'s certainly going to only hurt himself if he thinks a holdout is going to improve his value

He\'s the greatest!! His ability to drop balls on the 1 inch line are surpassed by none. His ability to throw a ball at the speed of sound to a receiver 4 feet away have no other QB in the league to compare to. His ability to inspire mediocrity in his teammates has not been seen since the days of Danny White of the Cowgirls. No one could be this dense and not get at least $100 million. Pony it up, Uncle Tom; we need 5-6 more 8-8 seasons. Wow!! I\'m pumped. Pay the money I say. :exclam:

Now you all know by now that I am all about being positive...however...

There is NO way that Aaron Brooks is one of the top 5 QBs in the league.

1.) Peyton Manning
2.) Tom Brady
3.) Donovan McNabb
4.) Daunte Culpepper
5.) Micael Vick

Well, it was tough coming up with #5 because of the lack of stellar QBs in the league but it\'s clear that Vick is better than Brooks. Feel free to disagree.

If it\'s true this could be just what the doctor ordered. Swap starting QB\'s with another team, Brees maybe? There are several others to be considered.

Good question, I\'m no stat-boy but I think the one name that just doesn\'t seem to fit into that group is AB.
I don\'t believe I could have said it any better than you just did.
Its not just AB either. This whole coaching staff keeps changing the pieces of the puzzle to try and build a team that specifically plays to their system.
Here\'s a thought, how about adjusting your system to fit the atheletes you have. Notice how the defense played much better when Haslet said, \"we just simplified some things\"?
Don\'t design the space shuttle when all you need is a racecar.

Interesting catch-22 there. For a swap to occur, Brooks has to be worth swapping for another starting QB.

If virtually everyone here on the forum, and all of the ESPN analysts knows that Brooks is a worthless bum, don\'t you think that other NFL GMs know it too?

So either Brooks has value as a starting QB and could be swapped, or Brooks is not worth it and can\'t be swapped.

So which is it?

I agree for the most part. Personally I think that most of Brooks\' stupidity is off the field when the guy gets in front of a mike. He should just shut up already.

But objectively if he were as football stupid as folks try to pin on him, he simply would not be able to produce the numbers that he has produced in the last 4 years.

I\'m a stat boy, so here\'s some stats for you: In the last 4 seasons only 2 NFL QBs have thrown for 3500+ yards and 20 TDs in each of those 4 seasons. And Brooks is one of them.

I\'m not saying that it makes the guy great. However he does have what it takes to get the job done.

The second is related to the defense. In the last 4 seasons when the Saints have held the opposition to 20 points or less, the team is 20-8. Of course this includes the last 4 games of last season. Last season the team was 5-1 when giving up less than 21 points and 3-7 when giving up 21 points or more.

So it\'s simple math to me. Leave Brooks in place and improve the defense so that it can consistenty hold teams to under 21 points.

Agree on both. The December 2002 thing is Haslett\'s fault. He simply should have benched Brooks and let Jake play. It was a no brainer.

Agreed again on protecting the football. It\'s those half dozen panic plays during the season that drives me nuts.

So fair that I\'m scared. Very scared. :D

The One flaw in what you just said, is IF th QB does not manage crucial points of the game well, He can put the Defense on there backs several 3 and outs, will wear them out, a turn over on or near your own goal line gives the opponets Oppertunity to rise to the magic 20 number.. , Fumbles Hurt bad, A Qb can deflate a whole team with bad descision making........

Brooks is Verry capable of taking care of the positive aspects of the game, But he is also real good at adding to the negatives to.........

I can see how someone might make that statement, however, Manning was the MVP of the league, in which a bunch of people had a vote, and the MVP of the Pro-Bowl on the same team that Brady played on.

well in all honesty i dont think you can argue with the fact that brady has won three sb\'s. you just cant. i think manning is a great qb. but if he cant win a sb i dont think he will be remembered as great in the long run. even with as great as marino was he will always be remembered for not winning a sb. and to be honest elway would have been thought of the same way had he not won those two. also he would not have won those two without davis and some other very good players. i think that no matter what you think of an individual player this is a team game. at the same time i still dont think you can argue with 3 rings.

I hear you, and I am not arguing with you. Manning will have to win a ring or he will always have that monkey on his back. Elway was able to shed his late in his career, whether or not Peyton is able to do that remains to be seen. I can\'t help but wonder if the Colts would\'ve won with Brady, and visa versa. But I definitely see the point you are making and do consider it valid.
