New Orleans Saints sign linebacker Mike Mohamed, according to source
 

The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran linebacker Mike Mohamed, a league source told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune.

Mohamed, 27, spent two full seasons with the Houston Texans before being released last month.

Mohamed expressed frustration after being placed on the injured reserve earlier this year. The Texans ultimately agreed to release him with an injury settlement that would allow him to sign with another team.

Mohamed was listed at 6-foot-3 and 238 pounds with Houston. He wore No. 98 at Saints practice on Wednesday.

Houston fans were pissed when they placed him on IR because of a calf strain, and they ain't real happy about losing him after the injury settlement.

From what I'm reading, he covers TE's very well.

He's kind of a big safety or smallish quick LB. Take your pick.

We just signed a pretty damn good football player.

I'm curious, he intended to re-sign with Houston, and Houston wanted him back, so what happened?

“The rules state that when you execute an injury settlement, you’re ineligible to bring the guy back or not able to bring him back six weeks, plus whatever you settle for. So, if we settle with him for say, two weeks, then the earliest he could return is eight weeks from now.”

What rules? The rules apply to Houston, not to us. We didn't give him an injury settlement, they did.

I'll play analyst and read into this signing this way...

...the Saints have probably received negative prognosis(s) for Ellerbe, Hawthorne and/or Humber...

And Saints prefer Mauti to focus, maintain energy as a special teams ace where he'd have the most impact...

Agree with the other kid that we just stole a great supporting cast player as the door of opportunity has swung in our favor...

Don't matter how you get here, if you're here, can play, give max effort, stay off Twitter, then there's plenty of gumbeaux here for ya...

I like the steal. OLB that can run and cover are lacking with our group.

6-foot-3, 238-pounder is a solid size since we are a 43 defense for the most part now a days.

If I am not mistaken this is the LB that was black balled. If I am correct he was posting and saying anti Jewish and Christian views for the past 2 seasons. I just read something on it but can't find it now. I'll post if I can.
