Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
Okay, so I went out with friends for the game yesterday to Walk-On's Bistreaux & Bar in Houma to help Drew Brees pay for all those children he and his lovely widow have...
Not a real big group, but large enough that there were a couple of friends of friends who were as opinionated about the Saints as I am... Bothered as there were these ole ornery, crotchety 14/7 offshore oil-patch types who had laid out this diabolical scheme that all this suckage is part of Payton's exit strategy to leave New Orleans for Dallas without compensation to the Saints... At first I wasn't so poker-faced that they seemed peeved when they shared this to our group... But as they went on, they really made their theory plausible... His son is in Dallas... Dallas Cowboys, America's Team... Larger market? Now, Dam*it, I can't get it out of my head; could Payton really want to work for Jerruh and be close to his son?!? |
Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
Put down the pipe son!
|
Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
Do you honestly think Sean is gonna take orders from that Tales from the Crypt look a like Jerry Jones. C'Mon Man!
|
Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
Can't see him going to Dallas until skelator is dead. Miami maybe.
|
Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
This has nothing to do with Sean.
I don't see him giving up to be fired. But he does need to clean house. |
Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
Dallas has always been the team that seems to come up every time Sean coaching elsewhere is talked about. Where there's smoke?
I think the timing will be wrong for Dallas however at this point, or rather, for next season, but who knows. |
Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
What makes your friends realistically think that Payton would want to work for Jerry, who took away his control, meddled with his decisions, and ultimately forced Payton to leave Dallas for greener pastures and better opportunities? THere is a HUGE history of those two snubbing each other and digging at each other, but still Payton has to be diplomatic and make nice with Jones, but you can tell there is some rancor there. Sean Payton under Tom Benson has the MOST money (highest paid), the MOST freedom of any coach in the league (no interference from Benson at all), with the least accountability for wins and losses! Why on earth would Payton give that up?
Jerry Jones is 73. Tom Benson is 88. Sean Payton is 51. It is entirely possible in some future scenario, that Payton could end up coaching the Cowboys someday....eventually....but not until quite a few gears turn, wheels creak, and a few things change in terms of ownership and possibly even the courts, for both teams. What is the succession plan for the Cowboys, should Jerry turn out to not be able to live forever, due to cutting-edge advances in medical science? I could see his head in a jar, running the franchise, someday, but the technology is not there yet. Does Jerry have a wife and kids squabbling and fighting over his money after he's gone? |
Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
All the talk about Payton leaving, etc. is a carefully calculated effort by Payton's agent to get a contract extension for his client. Think about it....who has the most to gain if Saints find themselves bidding against other suitors?

Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
Skelator is the crypt keeper, dungeon master.....yadi yadi in Big D, can't see Coach P going that route unless he feels he's arm pit deep in a never ceasing sh** storm here. Jerra's the new A. Davis, can't imagine SP doing it.

Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
Those guys are jazzing you for a reaction. I think 2 things are constant:
1) Tom Benson will probably live well into his 90's 2) So long as Tom owns the team, Sean Payton will be his coach. Only chance SP leaves is if a better opportunity presents itself. But when you're close with the GM and the financial guy (Lausha), and adored by the organization, it's kinda hard to see SP lured away by money or more control. Like everyone else said, Jerry Jones is not giving up any control of day to day and personnel decisions so SP to Dallas is a non-starter. If SP went to Dallas and became miserable after a year, it would be his own undoing. Besides, a flight to Dallas from Nola is barely a 1 hour commute and when you make MILLIONS per year in salary, you could take that round trip three times a week and it wouldn't add up to his monthly home cocktail bar budget. |
Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
Nah, and this is coming from Conspiracy Theorist #1 here. A great O-line is in place & a great #1 WR is in place, so the potential for a great Payton-run offense is there. Their TE won't be around much longer, so didn't include him.
But Jerry Jones is the GM. Repeat...Jerry Jones. Have you seen the garbage disciplinary problems that dude has brought in lately? You think Sean would put up with that or be able to handle that? Think how long Junior's antics festered before that blew right on up. Jerrah would have to become a Transformer or Payton would have to become a Transformer before Payton goes to Dallas. I honestly believe Parcells regrets taking that Dallas job in his career, the team he never won a playoff game with in his career...think he'd advise Sean to make the same mistake with Jerrah as GM? |
Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
Brees has a lovely widow? I didn't know Drew died.

Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan

Man, it's getting deep. The theories people come up with blow my mind. Creative thinkers, I suppose.

Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
If SP does leave and he goes were ever I wish him luck and accept the picks we get. he walks and we get nothing i will not only be bummed but anger to boot. I wish him well and hope he wins many titles were ever he ends up. He will always be a saint in my heart
If SP leaves I have to ask myself this, "Do I want to see Drew go through a new coach and roster roll over so that coach get "His/Her" players they want?" Answer is not really. So let Drew go chase a ring and get the picks either by trade or down the comp route. I wish him well and hope he wins many titles were ever he ends up. He will always be a saint in my heart We are back to the good old days of getting it all to fall into place all over again. something us old timers have seen before. Say goodbye to the front office staff also. so it has a great chance of being a train wreck. I will suffer through it all as a saints fan and laid to rest in my black and gold. BUT I can at the least go to my grave saying I saw the saints win it all. It would be funny if both ended up in the same place together. A package deal of sorts. They keep on winning and we sit back and watch what becomes of the boat load of picks we obtain. At the very least it will keep the board humming :) |

Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
SP wanted to make the commute from Dallas to New Orleans when hired. He was told you'll live here. I doubt if he stays when his sentan......er contract is up.

Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
Not a legal mind here but just a diabolical thought for Tom Benson to enhance the Saint experience in New Orleans, LA.
Consider public ownership to ensure this team never leaves NOLA. Make this Green Bay Packers - NOLA style! Unfortunately, a Packer stock certificate is framed in hubby's office. Packers can never leave Green Bay, WI. Just a thought and a way to preserve the choice TB made to stay in NOLA after San Antonio came a courting. Maybe? |

State of Louisiana ended up essentially financing the purchase of the team for Tom Benson (Any Car Salesman could own the team right now)... |

Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
Watched Inside New Orleans Sports with Eric Asher...
Guests were Larry Holder (TP/Nola.com) and Sean Fazende (FOX-NO Sports)... Now this was before today's game... They were strongly suggesting the rumors about Payton Leaving were coming out of his camp... They discussed if the Saints would be shrewed enough to hold out and demand compensation... Okay, those are "credible" sources discussing Payton possibly putting together an exit plan... Here's my thing, if he wants out, fine; if he geauxs somewhere else, we must get compensation... My Greatest Fear - He Takes Jeff Ireland and we're stuck with Mickey Loomis!!! |
Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
Its all fun and games until it happens to you. Remember when it rolled off our backs when Lebron left Cleveland. Now SP could do us like Lebron did Cleveland.
|
Re: Fan Paranoia / Master Exit Plan
SP has the owner and GM wrapped around his finger. There's no way he's leaving unless it's on his terms.
"Credible Sources" I'm calling BS, seems as if "Credible Sources" have all the information in this day in age of sports journalism |

This aren't you're run-of-the-mill talking heads out of Bristol, Connecticut; these are guys at Saints HQ everyday in the season they're not covering a game... But they have reputations themselves and can't imagine them spouting off without having seen/smelled some smoke to those rumors... |
