New Orleans Saints waive LB Mike Mohamed, cut Henry Coley from squad

The New Orleans Saints parted ways with linebacker Mike Mohamed on Tuesday, only six days after he joined the team.

Mohamed was waived after the Saints signed free-agent linebacker James Anderson.

Sometimes I think Sean Payton would rather us have a flag football league and he sees linebackers as an annoyance...

Well then... What an exciting adventure that was.

I might adopt Payton's way of dealing with problems. Maybe I'll go buy something and return a few days later and see if that makes any difference in my life, whatsoever. It sure works for the Saints... Obviously.

Ellerbe and Kikaha must be ready to go, and Anderson is probably better than the guys we cut.

Why does everyone freak out about bottom of the roster transactions?

Mohamed was supposed to be a good coverage linebacker, and a younger player. James Anderson is no one at this point. He's not going to help.

And it has nothing to do with freaking out. It's the fact that this team is constantly bringing in players, releasing them, bringing them back again, etc. It's never ending.

There is always a little bit of something going on at the bottom of the roster for all teams, but in all my years of watching football I don't ever remember it being as constant as this. It's all this team does.

The Saints also added a TE to the PS. I guess they've decided Ben Watson just can't get it done anymore.

Mohammed was also coming off of an injury, perhaps he hasn't healed fully?
Mohammed was also know as a head case, perhaps he showed his ass again?
Perhaps he was totally clueless about our system (that wouldn't be a shocker)

There is nothng wrong with bringing in multiple players. We're evaluating them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with kicking the tires on numerous players. It helps us identify how they may or may not fit in if a certain player is injured.

Do you know for a fact that we're the only team that does this?

They knew he was injured when they got him. It was assumed that he would contribute once he came back, but he didn't get the chance. 6 days isn't time to know what the hell you have. So it just becomes a pointless move, something to do just for the heck of it. And that is my point and my problem with it. James Anderson is 32. What's he gonna do, find the fountain of youth? Kicking those tires will only result in a scuff mark on your shoe.

I don't follow the daily transactions of all teams but I have done so for the Saints, through several regimes, and have never seen so much pointless shuffling. So I find it hard to believe it's the norm for anyone. And it shouldn't be, for the reasons I've given.

That joke would be funny if they had released Watson in the process.

It wasn't a joke. It was a direct insult to those that over-react to bottom of the roster shuffling.:p

Chaos, disorder, confusion. Sean P is shuffling guys around like he is playing Madden. Someone better tell James Anderson to see if he can get a 6 day lease on an apt. He probably won't be around long.

I'd be very surprised if Ellerbe is healthy enough to play on Sunday.

Really? Who has he shuffled in and out of our gameday roster?

We all understand that it's bottom roster shuffling, moving Mohamed after only a week in black and gold, back and forth with Joe Morgan etc. The way folks in Houston were beaming about Mohamed, I thought he would stick around for more than 6 days. Maybe SP next roster move should be members of the coaching staff .

As a few have stated before, it just seems pointless.

Exactly. It was a sarcastic joke directed at those of us who think all this roster moving crap is dumb. You don't actually think been Watson is being replaced, so it was a joke.

Pretty simple.

Its not pointless, it goes on with every team.

Yes, absolutely, especially with teams bumping the cap for the next year or two.

We've been "bumping" the cap for years now and, once again, never have I seen this much useless activity. There's a reason many of us are reacting this time around, whereas no one usually cares. It's because this is clearly unusual.

I don't know how you haven't noticed that. If it doesn't bother you or make you curious, then carry on.

Because instead of just looking like we don't know what we're doing it shows that we really don't know what we're doing = 4-5 record with a loss to a 1-6 team, at home, with a rookie QB.

Would you feel better if we had lost to a 6-1 team, with a veteran QB, on the road? I know I wouldn't.

I'm kinda surprised, I thought Mohamed was a score and was gonna stick. But I also don't think it's such a huge kerfluffle that people are making it out to be.
