I didn't have a problem with them going for it.

What pissed me off was not even having Ingram on the field!!

"Sean Payton didn't know it was fourth down"

So WTH is he doing on the sideline then? Chewing juicy fruit and killing time?

From what SP said in the Presser Ingram was banged up.

Put him in as decoy and have Brees and TE roll out

Proof of how far gone this coaching staff is. They are all lost. Speaking of that play, it was a cluster $%^&. Why throw the ball to a person that literally had a lb hanging on his back??? Just a total disaster.

Yeah right, not buying this one. There is such a disconnect between them two now and what you get is this nonsense

4th down and you don't know it? So I guess you're not calling the offensive plays and your OC don't think you're important enough to run by you if they should go for it? Totally b.s. He knew it was 4th and didn't call timeout to get Brees back on page with him or the OC.

Re: Sean Payton didn't know it was fourth down; Drew Brees went for it anyway

Nope. Bogus. Brees was waving off the punt team. You could see it during the game. Drew took over from the field.

That is actually worse than Payton not knowing if it was 4th Down or not. A person can make a mistake (yeah, that is a HUGE mistake for a HC), but for a player...even a fuuture HoFer like Drew...to override the HC inside the 30 yard line in a blowout on the road on 4th down in the 4th Qtr? 52 other players saw that. The rest of the staff saw that.

The defense had to go out there and defend 20 something yards after we didn't make the 1st down around the 25 yard line. Don't think the defense was mad about that? They were already the laughing stock of the NFL before that happened. This kind of thing divides a team...if it hasn't happened already, that is.

It was a good time to try a 4th down. But on 3rd and 1 a run up the gut gets stopped. So do it again on 4th and 1??????

I've seen Brady and Manning do it at different times in their career so its really no BFD that Brees did it

This staff acts like it has never heard of a qb sneak.

Was Brady & Manning getting beat down by 30 points in the 4th Qtr and going for it on their own 22 yard line? Of course not.

The game was over & out of reach. Not making the 1st down put our defense back on the field to defend 22 yards down by 30 in the 4th Qtr. If I was playing defense, it would be hard to thank Drew for that. The defense was already embarrassed.

Re: Sean Payton didn't know it was fourth down; Drew Brees went for it anyway

If Sean Payton is claiming that he didn't know it was 4th down, then he's saying that to protect himself. Because that's a load of BS. Drew waived off the punt team, and everybody saw it including Sean Payton.
But it does call into question the leadership of this team. I love Brees, but after that temper-tantrum srew up of waiving off the sideline on 4th down, I would have turned around and told Grayson "start warming up", and I would have sit Mr. Brees down.

1) Control of the team. The QB overrode the HC from the field.
2) Not putting half your teammates (the embarrassed defense) in an unnecessary situation with defending 22 yards while behind 30 points in the 4th Qtr.
3) Washington adding one more score to a 30 point lead in the 4th Qtr.

It matters. NFL players have pride. Gruden had mercy and didn't go for the TD to go up 37. He easily could have.

the teams dumps on the field and we are going to pick through it looking for peanuts?

whip it from the bottom of your shoe and move on. it ain't worth looking at it stinks enough as it is.

everyone is to blame. they stunk up the place and embarrassed not only the fans but them selves as a team.

Laugh out freaking loud... Sean knew exactly what down it was. From Drew waving off the punt team, to Sean's expression during and after the play, there is no way Sean didn't know it was 4th down. And as I stated in another post, it was a completely embarrassing moment for this franchise.

Well if your Star QB calls off the punting unit like that and he doesn't have a huge history of doing so... as HC you might question yourself if you had the right down or not to bring on the punting team.

Innocent enough.

Good on Brees for just trying though. I mean if your damn D can't do crap might as well keep them on the sidelines.

Re: Sean Payton didn't know it was fourth down; Drew Brees went for it anyway

Let Sean move on. Bring in Cowher at the same price. Let Carmicheal run the offense while Bill focuses on the HC duties. I bet he can get LeBeau to come down for a 2 year contract

RaginCajun83 11-16-2015 05:37 PM

Re: Sean Payton didn't know it was fourth down; Drew Brees went for it anyway

Cowher and all those other ex-coaches that do TV now aren't coming back to the NFL. Think about it, get paid millions of dollars to yap about football and not be accountable for anything you say OR have to deal with all the stress of being a head coach in the NFL.

Let's see, which one would you pick?

Euphoria 11-16-2015 05:42 PM

Re: Sean Payton didn't know it was fourth down; Drew Brees went for it anyway

I don't see anyone like Cowher coming in... when you have a QB that could be on the way out and CAP troubles. Yikes.
