New Orleans Saints salary cap squeeze
The NFL advised general managers this week that it was projecting a salary cap in the neighborhood of $150 million for the 2016 season.
For the New Orleans Saints and other teams facing a cap squeeze, the news served as a reminder of the work that must be done to trim the payroll in the coming months. The Saints have about $154 million allotted to 41 players under contract for 2016. They'll have to release players, negotiate pay cuts and restructure contracts in order to get under the cap and create space to pursue free agents and sign a draft class. The Saints will make the numbers work, as they do every offseason. But they may have to make more sacrifices than usual this year. ![]() Read much more here, including a breakdown of all the players | |

Wow, this again?
This is probably the best situation we've been in 5 years. Year after year Loomis re-works contracts to get us under the cap and affords us the capability to sign numerous key free agents. Yet year after year people panic. Loomis has this under control. If you doubt it you simply aren't paying attention, or you're dumber than a box of Cam Newtons. |

Loomis finds the money, its not his job to figure out who to spend it on.

Never re-sign defensive players to sweet deals. Loomis made that mistake a couple of times. We got burned bad. It almost never works out. Once they get paid it's over.

Re: New Orleans Saints salary cap squeeze
Colston is gone. Drew will fix that mess of a contract by extending it a year. 2 years 40 million total. Those 2 would save us about 13 million right there. Jordan will convert his to a signing bonus like they stated saving 4.8 million. That would cover the cap hit when the cut Browner. No way the cut of trade Morstead unless it is a must. He is without a doubt the best punter in the league but is a punter really worth 4.5 million?
