Watching other teams week in, week out, our defense has no depth, are undisciplined, and are not well coached at all 3 levels. That is why we are this bad on defense. Sure, Browner can be squarely blamed for some, but he can't shoulder all that blame. We're going in the right direction by firing a DC, but we've got serious issues with a thin talent pool defensively. We've got an even more serious issues with an incompetent and/or lazy coaching staff...defensively.

Offensively? We're a G, WR1, TE1 away from a top scoring offense again, I reckon?

And a play caller...

We have plenty of talent. Our problem is the glaring holes where we dont. A good guard, pass rusher, and wide receiver to compliment Cooks and Snead would go a long way. The problem is not personnel. Well at least talent wise it isnt.
I still say we have one of the better defensive backfields in the league if you exclude Browner.
Actually the article isnt that bad. The title is just a little misleading and exaggerated.

Other teams with a record similar to ours, are axing coach's and trying to improve. Our coach sits here week in and week out saying the same crap, i have to watch the tape, then the following presser, we are a few plays away here and a couple missed assignments we are gonna clean up, like thats all that is wrong with this team.

My point, worst roster, more like, worst coaching staff.

I didn't read the whole story. What I read above is enough.

Yes, we suck, but we don't have the worst roster. And the idea that Drew Brees kept us in that game, all by himself, is preposterous. I know the line sucks, but if Drew is some miracle worker he should have played a whole lot better. I thought he was average at best. Luke McCown's performance against that team still stands as a more efficient one than what we got out of Drew. If not for the 9 points we got out of the defense/special teams, it wouldn't have been much of a game.

No, I'm not being negative about Drew, or saying we should trade him, but don't give me this bull crap about him being the sole reason we were in the game.

Some talent but a lot of injuries which we can't overcome.

The roster really is pretty bad and is at least one of the worse in the NFL. Think about all the needs the Saints currently have, need more help on the defense line, need another linebacker or two, need more secondary help, offense line needs guard help and possibly right tackle help, put TE on the list since the starter is 35 years old, WR is another need, and maybe add a kicker to the list. Can make a case for RB, Ingram has been fine but there has been a lack of production behind him. QB is obviously solid, but that guy holds a 30 million dollar cap number, so...

Yes, a lot of issues have to fall on the coaching and the injuries have been off the chain. If these injured guys comeback strong next year, then it's not quite as bad. The Saints do have some very promising young players, lets hope they pan out and this rebuild won't be so painful.

Sad comment on both coaching & talent eval. Good teams with a good system in place in their front office & coaching staff overcome injuries by plugging in players down the stretch of a season.
