Should Swann Hang 'em Up?

Three concussions in three months now... It's getting scary with him.

I agree that's dangerous.

He should be out for the rest of the season.

Should be put on IR for this... sad really, kid has talent but you can't mess with brain injuries like that.

If he comes back next season and has any signs of concussion they should IR him right away. Far too young to be experiencing these issues.

It's interesting that you would ask this question, Chris. I was thinking this exact thing after he went out today. I think he should strongly consider retirement, as much as that sucks to say. He's not smart with the way he uses his head. Sometimes concussions happen anyway, but when certain players have them over and over, I think it shows a lack of awareness and technique by those players. When people say "use your head" they don't mean to literally use your head to make a hit.

Even if you say it's just a series of freak accidents, the fact that he's had three this close together is pretty bad. I don't suspect he'll retire right now, but he definitely needs to sit out the rest of the year.

It brings to mind our own Randall Gay. I remember when he retired and this was on NFL.com:

"I can't play anymore. I wish I could, but I'm still having symptoms from concussions," Gay told the Boston Herald. "I wanted to try again, but I can't really do anything. Hard, physical activities, I get headaches and nauseous and dizzy and stuff. I'd still like a chance in the NFL, but it's not worth it."

During Gay's last season with the Saints in 2010, he was sidelined by a nasty head injury that landed him on injured reserve. He can't recall how many concussions he suffered during his seven-year NFL career: "I don't know. A million," he told the Herald.

Gay played alongside Junior Seau in New England in 2007 and was shaken by the linebacker's recent death.

"That was real scary because I know what he's feeling," Gay said. "Some days, you just walk around, and you don't know what you're walking around for. I just catch myself walking around the house with no intention, like, 'What am I doing?' Just walking up and down."

Put the kid on IR. That's bad news. Tons of talent but it ain't worth it.

One more next year and he should retire. A ton of talent but health in the long run should be his top priority.

I'm sure he loves the sport he is part of but when situations like this happen repeatedly, you sometimes just have to take the very tough decision that its time to move on to something else, be it another kind of sport or maybe a new career out of sport all together!

Football is a fantastic game but its not worth taking the risks now just to stay in the sport but then possibly having to face repercussions in later life that could have been avoided with the correct decision at this point in time.

Good luck to him.

He never should have played today. Today was scary.

Agreed... They say he didn't even have control over his legs after the incident.

They should at least IR him for the year. Broken bones and torn up joints heal and in 99% of the cases you'll be fine in the long run but head injuries is a different monster.

Some guys just aren't built for it - it's that simple.

Sure hope P J Williams can return and be a force at CB...

Should Swann retire - as he should - and we can eliminate the liability in Browner, that would leave us with...

Keenan Lewis, Delvin Breaux, Brian Dixon, Kyle Wilson and P.J. Willaims for a 2016 CB corps - we'd only need to draft or sign one more CB...

Scary. It just might be time to walk away.

IR him and teach him how to keep his head behind the ball carrier when he's tackling. Proper technique helps. I think that is why rugby players have fewer issues with concussions. That and we're too stubborn to come off the pitch.

he should take the rEst of this year and the entire season next year off as well. I think concussions take much much longer to heal from than we recognize.
