Brees starting in spite of injury?

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/drew-br...194240327.html

So, with absolutely nothing to be gained, other padding HOF stats (and maybe helping desperate fantasy football geeks) why is he being allowed to play?

Pride?
Toughness?
Team?
Or is it Hubris?

That's right who the heck knows, it will make for an interesting off season.
Ownership battle, Coach's, Brees and other players.

I dunno, he looks completely healthy to me.

Regardless of what some uninformed believe, playing on the foot will not make it worse. The only issue is pain and pain can be easily controlled. To think that Brees wouldn't have started and played well is foolish.

First, I have enough Brees gear to choke a whale, so get over yourself with the 'hater' stuff.

It had nothing to do with his ability to play or even play well. My initial statement had everything to do with playing on a torn plantar fascia and why. My question is still legit. Playing would obviously not help the injury, so why wasn't he benched to protect the franchise?

Maybe he is going to ask to be traded and knows these will be his last two games in a Saints uni and wants to enjoy them......:deadhorse:

Re: Brees starting in spite of injury?

I don't care how well he played...

Please enlighten me on how Drew playing this week helped us at all, aside from winning a meaningless game against an equally inept opponent?

We saw no glimpse into the future with Grayson and we lost draft position. All while giving the team false hope of being competent.

Brees isn't going anywhere for at least another 2 years, but it would have been nice to see what the rookie was made of...

grayson is not some !st round hot prospect. We don't even know if he's a legitimate NFL QB much less starter starter material. Starting him over Brees would be raising the white flag.

Payton don't do that.

For the exact reason you stated is why Payton should have played him.

The easy thing to do was to start Brees. One of Payton's weaknesses is being too prideful.

No, he didn't make "us all" look stupid. Only those people that were saying he shouldn't play.

The easy thing to do was to start Brees because it was the only thing to do. If Payton had sat Brees over Grayson he would not have been swallowing his pride, he would have been showing his stupidity. Grayson was not drafted to be the Saints next starting QB. He was drafted to possibly be a backup and the Saints can see everything they need out of him in practice.

If Grayson was anywhere near ready they wouldn't have signed Flynn.

Re: Brees starting in spite of injury?

How dare they start Brees and win the game! Now we lost a draft position! Boo hoo. Stop the whining.

We drafted a QB in the 3rd as a potential back up?... Really...

We all know practice is the best indicator of how your going to do in an actual game... Oh wait, that doesn't sound right. Practice! Are we talking about practice!

Lastly, from the hindsight is always 20/20 field, if Brees had a career ending injury because of his lack of mobility last week the same folks saying "see that's why you play Brees" would be the same ones throwing stones today.
