Good for Tom Benson!

Re: Statement from New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson
Thank GOD he said something. The TP article this morning was EMBARRASSING for the city. Of course, the T-P is no longer a New Orleans based paper, nor does Jeff Duncan, or any of those sensational idiots at the TP have the city or the franchises in the City's best interests.
I'm sick of hearing the media smears of the local teams and franchises. So glad he spoke. Everything he says is true. So too is the T-P no longer based in New Orleans. So sad. Read TheAdvocate and theadvocate.com. They have HQ's in New Orleans and publish actual news. |
Re: Statement from New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson
Didn't Benson buy the TP so that New Orleans wouldn't be without a paper?

Good to hear something nationally from the top brass, not sure about locally with you guys, but nationally, away from Louisiana and the south, all we get is what the idiots who think they know something that really don't know sickum put out on media.

Re: Statement from New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson
"But what strikes me the most is the pure irony of The Times-Picayune imploring me to sell for the benefit of the city. I recall in May 2012, reaching out to the Newhouse family imploring them to sell to me or other local ownership as they threatened to become and then became a part-time newspaper. Since then the newspaper has done nothing but layoff staff and move operations out of town."

Re: Statement from New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson
Think many are missing Duncan's point...
First, he hasn't kept his job for being a complete hack... He can see the storm ahead between Gayle Gold Digger and Rita and her spoiled-self and the lawyering that is coming upon Tommy's demise... A Texas judge said as much in an earlier ruling re: unnecessary lawyering... Duncan rightfully mentions how those legal fights can derail a franchise for years, if not decades... Tom Benson's age is not conducive to a long, drawn out legal battle; Benson realistically doesn't have much time left and Duncan, rightfully asks him to do the responsible thing for the future health of the franchise... If you've ever gone through a succession and watch families tear themselves apart as I have because the deceased was reluctant to make the "hard call" then you won't fully appreciate this article as I have... |
Re: Statement from New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson
at this point in the battle it would be incredible dangerous to introduce a new owner for the city and the fans of the saints.

Re: Statement from New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson
Let the new LA teams get put in place before any sale. Dont want some jack**s getting any ideas

Re: Statement from New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson
If Bountygate didn't prove Scooter is a jackass then this letter to Benson for sure proves it. He is nothing but scum and will do anything to try and get his name out in the national spotlight

Re: Statement from New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson
He looked pretty alert at the game Sunday. Let's not rush into anything.

Re: Statement from New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson
Which brings me back to a new head coach if Payton leaves. The fact the article exists at all is because there is uncertanty of ownership in the next 5-10 years. It is said that this fact is one reason Payton may choose to seek employment somewhere else. No good coach is going to want to walk into a situation like this. We cant count on hitting gold with an up and comer assistant like we did with Payton. The same thing could be said for perspective free agents.

People get really emotional over the team. Granted, the writing style was a bit much... Duncan could have written the article in a more matter-of-fact style, but regardless, he does bring some points that have certain validity to them. I guess many have convinced themselves that the best outcome is for Gayle Benson to inherit the teams, and for Dennis Lauscha to run it... Gayle's business track record isn't exactly stellar, and Lauscha is a corporate man, who happens to be employed by a professional football team. Wouldn't it be a pisser, Gayle inherits the teams, then turns around and sells them because she doesn't want to (or can't for that matter) deal with the NFL/NBA owners? |
Re: Statement from New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson
^Would you rather the team leave NO?

Re: Statement from New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson
And if any of you think Tom Benson actually puts New Orleans first and is a great guy, I've got a great real estate deal for you...
Know your history or you're a doomed dumbarse to repeat it... |

I have to say that the T-P was always my paper of choice when I visited New Orleans. I can now understand why you are a proponent, supporter, ADVOCATE for a.n.other. :D |
Re: Statement from New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson
