Might as well crush Atlanta

We've already screwed the pooch on a high draft pick (making the large assumption we'd do something useful with it), so we better take it to the Falcons.

Drew has an outside shot at 5000 yards so we need to light them up.

Oh boy ...

Regardless of draft position, you play to win. The Patriots must be winning because they pick in the top 8 every year right?? If you have solid scouts (I think we do in Ireland) & coaches, you find good players to fit your system in any draft order.

Beating the dirty birds will be priority #1.

We're risking Drew so we dang sure better win!

Can't help but wonder if this'll be Drew's last game - that's why he's playing with this injury against Jacksonville, Atlanta...

One more for the gipper?!?

Never been to a game in the Georgia Dome, can't wait to go this weekend. So much more excited then a few weeks ago when I thought Drew might not even play.

Drew has quietly gone 11 tds and 1 int in December. Good chance he does light up the dirty turds.

He is playing with the injury because it is an injury he CAN play with, and play with at a very high level. I wouldn't want a QB that didn't feel that way.

And exactly how are we risking Drew? He has a completely torn plantar fascia. It can't be made worse by playing on it. The only issue is pain and that can be controlled by medication and proper wrapping/support.

Exactly. Once it is torn it is torn. You actually want it to tear completely. Until it does it hurts like hell. Once that thing pops it hurts a lot less. It isnt bothering him enough to effect his play obviously so just like any competitor he wants to go

Re: Might as well crush Atlanta

Seriously, why do people think drafting 4th or 5th instead of 10th or 11th is going to make the team a contender? You play to win. That's it. Again, the second I see our team purposely and blatently lose games, I'm done watching.

But yes let's kill the Clowns.

Since we screwed up our draft order we might as well win this game.

If it came down to crushing the clowns or losing and getting the 1st pick in the 1st round of the draft, I'd choose to crush the clowns and pick second in the draft!!!

Are we gonna cut Drew?..... and take the 15 million dollar cap hit next year while he plays at another team? I don't think that would be smart.

So we go another year with his cap number as is?!?

Or do we extend? and for how long?!?

this is the first year in 12 that I am not going; first time in awhile that there was nothing on the line

take MARTA- traffic really isn't that bad, but I don't like wading thru the bandwagon, no-nothing Atl fans who tailgate (and don't actually go in)

Because what limited mobility he has (other than sliding around in the pocket) on a normal day is shot and maybe it gets him steamrolled where a shoulder gets jacked up or a knee taken out.

Aside from stats, there is nothing to play for and hasn't been since losing at home to the bottom feeding Titans.

Remember the Titans??? It sure as hell wasn't an inspirational show...

There are wins to play for. Thank god people that think as you are not in control of the team or the lesson of not doing your very best, trying your very hardest to win would be destroyed. You are speaking like a fan. Not a dis, but not what the team truly needs.

More patient than me, Danno. I have told him and others exactly the same thing dozens of times over the past couple of years. Either they are too dense to understand or too distracted by their misguided thoughts to care.

If we must go into the season with a 30 million cap hit I would still do it. But, I would much rather extend him 2 more years. That gives us 3 more years which would take Brees to retirement with the passing yards record. If he is not worth his 3rd year then cut him. Eat the cap hit for 1 year. Our cap problems will be fixed by then.

Re: Might as well crush Atlanta

I doubt we move into next year with him in a final year at a 30M hit. He currently has a $30M hit next year with $20M due in cash. He will likely want to stay around the salary range to be in the top paid QB guys. Make it a 3 year, $55M deal and translate the cap hit to $18.3M per year and bump some back end money into signing bonus to make it very attractive for him. We save cap money immediately while also reducing that positional cap money to a relatively league average for top QB's. Pretty much everyone else is in the 16-19M range for their QB and with the cap going up this can be manageable.

Good questions jeanpierre.

Have fun jlaw8920.

voodooido, I agree. 5 years is too long and everything else you and lummox said.

SMike, I agree. The last 5 or so games , I always wanted, wished the Saints to win. At least finish .500 when there was a chance. Pride sake . This game with AtlFal, I hope the Saints win for pride sake and for the fans.
I hope this last game is televised in Houston. This year, most of the Saints games have been televised. :-)

Last year Tampa Bay tanked on us in the second half to draft first

Play for pride

No draft is big enough for our defensive problems
