So the wait begins

How long do you think it will be until Payton lets us know if he stays or goes? Heads are going to start rolling in the AM and he will know his options.

For the record I hope he stays. Coaches like him only come around about once in a lifetime. At least in my lifetime anyway and Im near 40.
If he does leave hope we can Harbaugh

We won't know anything until either Micky or Benson say something one way or the other. Everything else we read until then is just journalistic crapola trying to get hits on a website or there name out there as a source. The outside world would love to see Payton leave for some unknown reason.

Two years and three months, after his second Superbowl win.

It could take awhile, there is always some waiting around for NFL playoffs teams' assistants.

After Sunday night game, Florio said SP is meeting with Loomis tomorrow. I believe he stays......doesn't mean a decision will be made soon though.

Reading some of your posts I totally understand your frustration but in the NFL it seems when rumors like this swirl and there is this much smoke it winds up being true. Happens time and time again. Bountygate, Inflategate, Jimmy Graham trade, JR Gallette fiasco, etc. I really dont want to believe it but my gut tells me he is gone. Its going to suck for us.

I believe Payton & Brees stay. The meeting with Loomis is routine.

I'm nervous. I'm checking sites, other teams forums for any info. I need to get some sleep. Hope Payton and Brees stay. I want them to try again with a new DC.

Re: So the wait begins

Brees is staying, imo. For some weird reason lots of people think if Payton leaves, Brees leaves. Brees is not a free agent, and I don't know who is going to trade for a QB his age with his price tag. Brees could help a lot of teams, but he's extremely expensive. I would think any team willing to pay out a lot of money for a QB would rather someone they can lock up long term.

I know Brees says he wants to play until he's 45, and I hope he does, but that's not very realistic. Peyton Manning is the only guy I know of who became a free agent in his mid 30's while still being a top tier QB. And because of that, he is the only one at that age who got a mega deal. It worked for a little while, but the last two years he hasn't been close to his old form. That should be a lesson for any team thinking of throwing that kind of money at an aging QB.

That's why I think he stays here. Got to bring that cap number down, but I'm guessing that will happen. It's easier to manage an expensive QB when you already have him under contract, and can restructure like the Pats did with Brady. I just have a little less confidence in Loomis.

Hire Tomsula as the DC and I think we'll be just fine.

Re: So the wait begins

Both stay.

Restructure Drew into 2019.

Add coaches.

Sign a veteran DE, WR, LB, OG.

Draft well.

Let's do this thing.

Allen will be our DC. And a good one at that.

As i said on another thread id see if he would be willing to coach the defensive line and id see if Singletary wanted to coach the linebackers. Both are great positional coaches but not been able to take the big job. Let them rebuild there rep here

Re: So the wait begins

I am torn....I don't want Payton gone, because good coaches are few and far between. However, a change may be good for everyone. What I don't like to hear is Doug Marrone being atop the list of replacements. He has a sub .500 record spanning 6 years in college and the NFL. Some people are just not cut out to be a head coach. Also, when he left after the 2008 season, the offense did not suffer so, he isn't some offensive genius. He went to Jacksonville to work with the Oline and they give up 51 sacks on the year. The guy is not good, but hey, that is just my opinion.

But Mannings problem has been mostly related to his neck injury, him losing feeling in his fingertips, and other problems with his throwing arm. His decision making is still there. Age in sport isn't really what it used to be. New ways of nutrition and exercise will have veterans playing longer and longer, especially at the QB position that is more cerebral than physical and where guys doesn't take nearly the punishment as they used to.

I am going to predict Sean Payton stays with the Saints. If he does leave, I predict Dennis Allen will be the new head coach for the Saints.

I'm sure Joe Montana's decision making is still there as well, but that wasn't exactly my point. If Peyton's neck was the problem then why did it take three years for him to suddenly show the effects? I don't think it was that injury, and I have heard nothing about him losing anymore feeling in his fingers. It's that he is old and his offensive line has faltered, so he's just breaking down. And the same thing is happening with Brees, though Drew has managed to survive so far... he needs better protection, are he won't last much longer. Anyone can have their career ended at any time, as we all know, but when you're older it stands to reason that you break down quicker. I don't buy into all that nutrition stuff. That's good for your heart, but it won't save your bones from getting cracked.

There are rules in place to protect QB's now, but if you don't have protection you're still going to get beat up.

NFL Network are reporting "The Saints want a second Round pick to trade Sean Payton"

Even a a top 5-10 in the second isnt worth it

Yeah I am frustrated. I have no clue why everyone outside of New Orleans wants him to leave. I can only summarize that its because they have nothing else to do but speculate. They want SP to say something, wtf is he going to say? I am not on the get rid of SP bandwagon. I remember Saints football before 2006 and to know this might be coming to an end doesn't give me warm fuzzy feelings.

But at the same time; if there is a coaching change it could be for the better... It's not like Payton is the same coach he was back in 2009...

It's not up to SP. Loomis has to grant other teams permission to speak with SP. If they can work something out then they can talk about compensation. It's a strange situation because you technically can not trade for a coach but it's been done. Gruden costs 2 rd 1's, 2 rd 2's, and 8 million in cash. I can see SP bringing a rd 2 this year and a rd 4 that could turn into a rd2 next. With that I would be VERY happy! Drew will go no where unless someone is willing to give multiple picks this year and next. If both go we could end up with 3 extra pics this year and 3 next.
I say keep Drew and throw away SP. Philly, San Fran and Indy want SP. Fran and Philly may try a SP/Drew trade. If that is the case I would want this years rd 1,2,3 and next years rd 2. But what the crap do I know.

I didn't know the Iggles were interested in Payton; although I don't think SP would even consider leaving the Saints for Philly.

Re: So the wait begins

Im not against your double trade if they want to go. If use well that trade is a franchise rejuvenator. Id rather keep both snd make another run though. But if he goes it better not be Marrone. Id rather take a risk with a young hungry coach who could either win the lot or bust out. I dont want to become the Rams 8-8

Re: So the wait begins

I just don't see him going anywhere. How can you let a coach like that get away. GM needs to answer some questions as to why we are headed into cap troubles. He also needs to work with Sean better and get this D shored up. If Sean is let go or traded out of NO. He'll be a 49er. We can't let that happen.

burningmetal 01-04-2016 10:54 AM

Re: So the wait begins

Marrone should be automatically scratched off any team's head coaching list. The guy quit on the Bills. Just quit... He got an opportunity as an NFL head coach and with a team that had some talent, he just walked away, thinking he could get a better job. He was wrong.

Why should we suddenly consider him just because he used to coach under Payton? The guy has earned zero respect. I don't understand the speculation about him at all.

Didn't Tom Benson already say that Peyton isn't going anywhere and since Brees in under contract
this thread doesn't hold water.
