Surely Payton is worth more than a second round pick!

Would you like Saints head coach Sean Payton to be your head coach in 2016? All it would take is a new contract and a second-round draft pick.

The pick, reported by NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport Monday, is the sticking point here. The Saints are obviously listening and could part ways with their Super Bowl-winning coach for the right price.

FOX Sports first noted that the Saints could be seeking a second-rounder for Payton.

Not true at all. There is no way they let Payton walk for a 2nd rounder. Therefore it is bogus.

Oakland got two 1st and 2 seconds I believe and Gruden hadnt even gotten them a SB ring.

Sheez. A second round pick is like, what you would take for him if you wanted him gone out the building TODAY. Like you needed his parking space, and wanted him gone before noon.

Something is kinda "off" about this. It almost feels like the pressure to move Payton might be coming from somewhere inside the Saints organization and not from Payton wanting to leave. Or another possibility -- floating the idea of the "2nd round pick" is what you might say to shake the tree and get the phone ringing with a few offers. Because if you start at the top and flat out say "we want nothing less than two firsts, and a 2nd and a 3rd, plus cash" then no one in their right mind is ever going to call and ask about Payton. They read that in the papers and they just won't even pick up the phone.

This can't be true of we would have offers of 6-7 picks already from teams that would drool to find Payton walk in their door. Rappaport is his own source.

I think it was a ploy to get a bidding war going and get teams interested.

Plus keep in mind he is one of the highest paid they would have to take on his contract.

Payton is not one of the highest paid coaches in the NFL. He is the HIGHEST paid coach in the NFL at $8 million per year.

Sounds to me like he is ready to move on and so are the Saints. Personally I want him gone if he is shopping himself around.
