Reports conflicting on whether Payton negotiated with Colts on Monday
I was worried that the Colts job might appeal to Payton.
Updated at 9:30 a.m.: NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune, along with multiple national media outlets have learned that Sean Payton's agent, Don Yee, never negotiated with the Colts and the report is inaccurate. The Colts worked late into the night before handing coach Chuck Pagano a surprising four-year extension Monday. However, they were also negotiating with Sean Payton's representatives before coming to that decision, according to the Terre Haute Tribune-Star. "According to an NFL source, the Colts were negotiating with Sean Payton reps while Pagano talks were also happening. Talks broke down," the report said. Re: Reports conflicting on whether Payton negotiated with Colts on Monday
Yeah I'll say reports are conflicted - someone in the press LIED, probably Ian Rappaport, or Mort or Adam Schefert or the entire of ESPN. Jeff Duncan at NOLA.com is also a liar as well as Jim Kleinpeter at The Advocate.
Maybe we should start covering which "journalist" was caught in the biggest LIE and put bets on it? |

Someone in the media needs to get fired. Soon.

Media needs to create issues so people will go to their sites. Correction. Media writers who can't do actual true stories and are too lazy to do research work INVENT stories they know will bring them attention. The people will get tired of the boy who cried wolf. Editors should demand real reporting.

When reports come from the Jay Glazer camp, I tend to listen.
Ian has shown that he is not one with "inside scoop". He had Chuck Pagano fired, packed and on the first train smoking. |

Geez, you guys are sure fired up in this thread. I'm as critical of the media as anyone, normally, but I won't go as far as calling them liars over something like this. Denial is something players, agents and teams do all the time. So just because they say something didn't happen, doesn't make that automatically true.
The colts extended Pagano, so what good does it serve to tell anyone who else they were talking to? Then again, maybe this IS a made up story. Who cares? Very little surprises me anymore. I'd rather wait a few more days and see what shakes out before I start reacting to every story. |
Re: Reports conflicting on whether Payton negotiated with Colts on Monday
THere is only one scenario where it's possible, without it being TAMPERING and highly illegal in the sport. Which is if Mickey Loomis and Sean Payton were in the meeting together yesterday afternoon, picked up the phone and called the Colts to talk, while Payton just sat and listened in. Anything besides that scenario is TAMPERING and is highly illegal, and if the Colts did talk to Payton's agents or Payton, even just for polite "how's he doing in New Orleans?" chit-chat, then the Colts should rightly have the whole d--mn book thrown at them.
