ok i think the question was who you would trade up for not if you would trade up

Jalen Ramsey is my odds on favorite to fall. maybe to 10?

Never played any position for more than year and no where near a finished product for any given position.

I view him as a solid floor but a ceiling through the roof player.

So despite my never pick a round 1 player based on upside or hype in round 1 (which is a 50/50 track record)

Ramsey is one I would put on top of my hit list for round 1. He was there at the start of the season and remains there still.

then again this could be all wishful thinking

No one is worth it in this year's draft.

How do you really know if ANYONE is really worth trading up for? Historically it has been proven, especially by New England and their trading down, and by our very own track record in the other direction, that it really is not worth it in the era of the cap. Ingram is our latest example I think. While he has stuck around and has finally emerged, I am still not sure it was worth two first rounders.

I agree. In the case of Ingram, though we'll never know what might have come from the picks we gave away to get him, it's always better to stockpile, in my opinion. And as you said, he finally has emerged (at least as a pretty good player) but it did take a rather long time. The RB position, especially in our system, is mostly interchangeable as it is. Look at what Tim Hightower did at the end of the season for us. And we still have a suspect O-line.

So that was really a mistake, even with Ingram's recent production.

No projects! I vote DL, but we don't even know if 4-3 or 3-4 is going to be the flavor of the month. Let's go for Robinson or Nkemdiche.

Can't draft great if you can't coach great though...

I really like staying where we are...
We are sitting right in the middle of some decent D picks.

If anything trade back to around 20 and get a extra rd 2 or 3. To much work needs to be done on defense to trade up for one guy. We did great last year with our late rd 1 and rd 2 picks. With a healthy group of CB's and Safeties I think some big uglys on the d-line would really help this defense. Gotta get some kind of push up front. DB's can't cover all day.

This issue is simple to address. Ask one single question:

Is there any single player in the draft that will transform the Saints into a consistent top 5 defense in scoring and takeaways?

If the answer to that question is yes, then feel free to do a Ricky Williams with the draft.

I suspect that no matter how great the player is, the answer to that question is no. Given that moving up isn't an option.

There isn't any 1 player that can do that, but there is good defensive talent in this years draft. We are only a few good D-lineman away from having a respectable defense.

DT and DE are the highest needs, but I wouldn't mind taking a OLB in the first.

DT is the only position I would consider trading up for. Otherwise, I'm happy grabbing top ten talent that slides in the draft. We have too many positions of need to be giving away draft picks. Last year we hit on most of our draft picks. I want to see just how effective Ireland is the second time around running the draft room with Payton.

Question was who (or what position?) we would trade up for. We shouldn't but if we do it should be for a NT. However, recent history appears to indicate LB is safer than DL in the 1st.
