So is Colston gonna start a training regimen and not drop passes or fail to make catches anymore? Oh wait is the oline to blame again? IS Snead gonna put on 20 pounds this offseason and suddenly be electric?

I don't want more 3-7 offensive points against Detroit and Carolina first halfs again next season(yeah Brees always moved the ball at home against any defense).

I know we need defense, but we are never gonna break our ass on defense to win without Brees able to pass for some points. We're not Denver. You want Brees to win ugly games against NE and Pittsburgh like Manning did? Basically we won't know if we will win until the final second.

This is where we are...

Before reworking any contracts, we're over the projected salary cap...

Assuming we rework the larger contracts (i.e. Brees) and release some players that will have minimum dead money (i.e. Ellerbe), we're going to have a very limited shopping spree in Free Agency...

So the salary cap money allocated had better count and it had better have an impact and meet a personnel need...

We need a run stuffing, gap gobbling defensive tackle and several quality defensive tackles should be available; Damon Harrison is in his prime and will provide excellent value...

We need a weakside linebacker that can cover; Danny Trevathan is entering his prime, will be coming off, at the least, a Superbowl appearance; and will want a fulltime gig to make a difference and can fit the salary cap slot that probably will be vacated by Elllerbe...

We need a big, physical "x" or No. 1 receiver for red zone and first down conversions; with our limited salary cap space, would we try to get into a spending spree for an aged Anquan Boldin? Colston also faces father time, and has recently experienced a case of the drops, but is still familiar with our system and may likely give the home town discount...

Commit the smart money on Harrison and Trevathan and shore those needs up; if the opportunity in the draft of a Treadwell or a quality wide receiver
presents itself, take it...

I understand where we are and I am expecting Drew to restructure. He knows he has to. But no way am I gonna rely on the same receivers to play better against much better secondaries on the schedule next year. I never said a top five receiver like Megatron but a number 2 who has the ability of a number 1 or another strong number 2. And we are probably not even getting Treadwell as he will likely be gone.

If Colston stays then there's no place for a receiver deserving of more playing time unless Snead shares time with Colston and Coleman in the slot. Snead only possesses one quality that is toughness. We need someone that can do both, be quick and tough.

Snead had 1000+ tough yards this season and has excellent hands. Not to bad for a rookie. Another TE to go along with Watson could open up a few more things. Cooks is doing great. If Coleman steps up as a deep threat I think we're good.

Idk I don't trust what we have against elite defenses. I feel the receivers have played scared and only show up against softer defenses or division rivals. Snead has 1000 yards but he hasn't been consistent. Snead has 6 TDs this year and half of them were against Jacksonville and NYG combined. Coleman's also failed to score more than 2 TDs all season. These guys were not stepping up enough in the redzone.

I can agree with that to a point but a better run game could help us out in the red zone. No one respected our run game. A OG and TE could be the ticket to opening everything up. I do worry about Coleman more than Snead stepping up. Coleman is still my wild-card on the O this is where I got to believe in Paytons judgement wheather right or wrong. He has put together some fine O's, it's the D he lets take the field that scares the hell out of me.

OL and DL is were it is at. the rest will work itself out.

OG Alex Boone? Stop gap measure? Evan Mathis or Richie Incognito?
OG/C Stefen Wisniewski, Jacksonville Jaguars
DT Nick Fairley, St. Louis Rams
DE Jaye Howard KC

WR Anquan Boldin San Fransico?
TE Ladarius Green, San Diego Chargers

Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency

From the sampling we've got a Coleman, especially his porous catching, I wouldn't bank on him...

We do need another big red zone, third down target as Colston's age has caught up with him; until that person is on the roster, Colston's cap number is really not that bad...

Now, it'd be nice to restructure Colston for two more years, 2016 and 2017, that way you've got a leader in the corps to keep the young guns on track...

Problem is that there really is no quality free agent top of the depth chart wide receiver available, that's why I think we're spending one of our higher draft picks on a wide receiver...

Even if there were big-name starting WR's available we wouldn't be signing any of them. I've been beating this drum for a long time: we DON'T sign those free agent WR's. We draft or develop undrafted FA's.

Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency

At some point Payton's got to do something different. With more NFL ready receivers in college, it's not as easy to get undrafted FA receivers. I do not think Treadwell will be available when we pick. And I don't want Boldin, he's older now just like Colston and we don't need to copy what Indy did getting Johnson, which blew up in their face.

Defenses did not respect our run game because they knew from all the press that saints were gonna run more. They focused on stopping the running game, and forced Brees to beat them. They even saw how the passing game looked in certain games and stacked the box on every first down.

There is one thing I am curious about and I will start it in another thread.

IF Boone is healthy, maybe, but with limited salary cap space, we've got to get a NT that can shut it down and a linebacker that can play more than six games a year...

I'm really surprised you listed Fairley, he'll be suspended for dope by Week 4...
