New Orleans Saints have 53 under contract for 2016 after last week's moves
 

The crafting of the New Orleans Saints' 90-man roster really won't begin in earnest for another couple of months.

The Saints will add players through free agency in March, the NFL Draft in April and then fill in the gaps with veterans and undrafted players in May.

They'll also be pruning the roster at the same time, so not every player under contract will still be around for organized team activities in the summer.

But the Saints have been laying the groundwork for the roster-building this week, even while coach Sean Payton's future was in limbo.

The Saints signed 10 players to reserve/future contracts, including seven who ended the season on the team's practice squad.

The Saints have 53 players under contract for 2016. There are four exclusive-rights free agents, four restricted free agents and 16 unrestricted free agents who ended the year on the Saints roster.
