Saints in position to trade down with team looking for a QB
With only two teams possibly picking a QB in front of the Saints and Eagles following and needing a QB the possibility of a team like the Rams moving ahead of the Eagles is a real thing. The Texans also are a possible trade partner. Using the trade value chart we could easily get a 2nd from Texans,or a 3rd from Rams. While it is possible that the Saints could opt for a QB IMHO we will not use this pick on a QB. Moving back to 15 or 19 would be acceptable if we got another early rd pick . Given our talent level we need all the picks we can get.Loomis make it happen. Not only do we get an other possible starter we get salary cap relief. I always get excited about the draft and can't wait. Thoughts,Opinions,Comments.

Re: Saints in position to trade down with team looking for a QB
The problem with our team is that there is no blue chip, elite talent on it. Brees and Armstead are elite. Cam Jordan is very very good, but not elite. He's a great player on a bad d-line. Delvin Breaux could start to make a case next year if he does what he did this year and works on his technique.
If Myles Jack, Billings, A Shawn Robinson, Shaq Lawson, or any other highly touted defensive players are there, I would much rather take one of them than trade back. The past few years I was all for trading back due to talent, but I think this is a pretty top heavy draft where we HAVE to get the best defensive player that may or may not fall on our lap. If all the blue chip talent is gone, I'm all for it, but I'll be livid if we trade back, dont get one of those guys and then the player is gone when we select at our new spot. |
Re: Saints in position to trade down with team looking for a QB
If we draft like we did last year, and not the previous 5 years, I'd say yes, go for quantity.
I might be wrong on one player, but aren't all nine of these guys still with us- IR, PS, or active? 13th Overall (Round 1) - Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford 31st Overall (Round 1) - Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson 44th Overall (Round 2) - Hau'oli Kikaha, OLB, Washington 75th Overall (Round 3) - Garrett Grayson, QB, Colorado State 78th Overall (Round 3) - P.J. Williams, CB. Florida State 148th Overall (Round 5) - Davis Tull, OLB, Tennessee-Chattanooga 154th Overall (Round 5) - Tyeler Davison, DT, Fresno State 167th Overall (Round 5) - Damian Swann, CB, Georgia 230th Overall (Round 7) - Marcus Murphy, RB, Missouri |

I'd be all for trading back in the first if it could give us say a 2nd and a 5th. |
Re: Saints in position to trade down with team looking for a QB
Wouldn't trade that pick until it was selection time as it is very likely a franchise player could fall...

That is what happens when you don't have a winning season........there are always better possibilities in the draft.

Re: Saints in position to trade down with team looking for a QB
The pick is always worth more at the last second. Hold on to that bad boy until Dallas decides they want another rd 1 pick. Make them sell the farm on this one. We need some serious help on the O and D-lines. A couple extra picks would help that. Get a Rd 2 and 4 this year and a Rd1 next.

We never trade down.

Re: Saints in position to trade down with team looking for a QB
Like Danno said we never do it really
I am one that is always willing to trade back if the right player does not fall into your lap. With the cap situation still hanging around and 2017 looks to be the big year in the rebuilding mode I say get the picks and stuff the roster full of late day two and early day three players as you can. All with the idea to try to get players to replace all the aging veterans that will be FA in 2017. Well as many as you can. Last year's draft class looks to be a promising start. 31st Overall (Round 1) - Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson 44th Overall (Round 2) - Hau'oli Kikaha, OLB, Washington 154th Overall (Round 5) - Tyeler Davison, DT, Fresno State Have yet to see 78th Overall (Round 3) - P.J. Williams, CB. Florida State 148th Overall (Round 5) - Davis Tull, OLB, Tennessee-Chattanooga IR issues 167th Overall (Round 5) - Damian Swann, CB, Georgia God only knows 13th Overall (Round 1) - Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford 75th Overall (Round 3) - Garrett Grayson, QB, Colorado State Still not sold on 230th Overall (Round 7) - Marcus Murphy, RB, Missouri |

Well, not first round picks at least; we traded down early on in Payton, Loomis tenure... |
Re: Saints in position to trade down with team looking for a QB
The elite DE's and OLB's will be gone by the mid 1st round and we need one in the worst way. If we want one we need to stay put and take the best available at our pick. If we don't it will set us back 2-3 years. I'd say trade Spiller and maybe another RB and try to get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for them, then we could trade back up into round 1 and get another top player, say a Whitehair or the G from LSU.

Re: Saints in position to trade down with team looking for a QB
Trading Graham last season wasn't a bad thing it netted us a C and a 31st pick, not bad. If we trade Jordan, we could get a top tier starter like Unger in the Seattle trade and a pretty decent pick in the draft. I like trades you get one good player and lose nothing + a pick. I would put Bush and Vaccarro on the block to and get better SS's.

Re: Saints in position to trade down with team looking for a QB
Does anyone know how many players are traded for draft picks?
They're like Big Foot sightings. It just doesn't happen in the real world. |
