Mike Florio Calls Bullshinski on Bountygate and the NFL's Beatdown on the Saints

Well, Florio is definitely throwing a bone to Saints fans and warning other teams' fans they can be next...

I was watching some old NFL Films clips the other day. Just about every play would be considered a penalty in today's game. I'm glad we're protecting the players more, but some of today's rules are ridiculous.

I remember the Saints had a WR named Keith Poole years ago. Man that guy would go over the middle and get lit up. I remember watching it a few times. I would cringe. I don't remember who the QB was....Everett or Brooks...one of the Billy Jo's...but man I remember seeing him get laid out.

In today's NFL the defenders would be ejected for hits like that. Lol.

Florio did speak up 4 years ago. The NFL didn't want to hear it.

After 4 years, even those who realize how flawed it was in terms of ignoring all of the other teams, still don't realize how little evidence there was to even say there was a legitimate bounty to begin with.

Sure, players want to hit as hard as they can, and there is an intent to "rough up" the opposition. That's the game. But a bounty system? I asked it then and I'm still wondering today... Where were the injuries in association with the players on the supposed list?

Favre was the only QB that we seriously hurt during the year, that I can remember, and I don't think his name was even on the ledger. So a 40 year old QB gets knocked around and injured, and we're supposed to assume it was intentional? Where was Roger when the Bucs screwed up Drew's shoulder this year? Since we know injuries apparently don't happen to QB's without direct intent. People will not admit this.

I love that one of the teams with the least penalty flags was going out to injure people. Either the failed in getting the players on a bounty or its all BS

Re: Mike Florio Calls Bullshinski on Bountygate and the NFL's Beatdown on the Saints

look the players voted down lifetime health insurance for more money so they except the risk of their profession. So all these rule changes have less to do with safety than making more money, The NFL competition committee is only trying to compete with all the other pro sports about profit. Throwing all these flags for sneezing on a WR is stupid enough as it is with out bring up the automatic first down with almost each and every one.

So Roger is getting away with murder and using bogus and vague charges against teams as a distraction to get away with it.

Roger is the worse thing that has happened to the NFL in the history of the game.

Move on? Not until there's a reckoning and Goodell's head is mounted on a wall in New Orleans...

That phony lectured us about the integrity of the shield then colluded with Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, general manager Ozzie Newsome and others and failed to disclose, essentially lie about the full scope of Ray Rice's Elevator Extravaganza...

There was no accountability except the continued cash flow to the owners which makes all complicit...

Anytime I hear BS about the integrity of the shield, I feel the urge to vacate...

The fans of New Orleans were disenfranchised and defrauded and there should be a reckoning of accountability for it...

I can not believe that the owners didn't hold Goodell accountable for that mess.

It put the kibosh on any success the Saints might've had for four years (so far) and I believe that Payton is not the same coach as he was after being forced out of the league for a year.

Why would they, and i include Benson in that. He took one for the team (owners) allowed them to look like they cared about the players and the all important upcoming legal case

The defense would of put a stop to the successful run, do you really think they would of used those lost picks correctly? SBJ anyone

IMO none of this happens if the Saints lose to the Vikings or the player lawsuits. The league got backed into a corner and they decided to use a small market team as the scapegoat for them making the game safer. Think about it, the Packers had been told to stop a known bounty program in 2007 and Giants players said they trageted the 49ers punt returner who had PCS in the 2011 NFCCG. No way they would go after those two teams

Re: Mike Florio Calls Bullshinski on Bountygate and the NFL's Beatdown on the Saints

Exactly. We just got railroaded at a time when former player safety was hitting the pocket books of the owners and the league. This was an opportunity for the league to publicly show they were doing something to prevent this and assist their legal case and minimize their financial damage. We were the wrong place wrong time team and Roger will stop at nothing short of a Manitowoc County Sheriffs fabrication to be right when he wants to be.

As Florio said, other organizations need to beware when their time comes. It's only a matter of time before this idiot needs to make an example of someone else over his own created flaws in this game. Goodell is a flat out criminal and until the pocket book's of ownership are penalized by his actions they will continue to reap the benefits of his mismanagement of this league.

i'm reading Concussion right now, I've gotten to where the dr finds out the NFL has known about concussions since the 1980s. The "committee" put together completely disregarded any scientific info already out there.

Some of the other things I've read so far boggle my mind

I laughed at this because a few weeks ago Loomis was wah-wahing about the lost two picks...

A sardonic reporter would have seized that and asked him sarcastically about the lost opportunity of taken two more SJBs...

Re: Mike Florio Calls Bullshinski on Bountygate and the NFL's Beatdown on the Saints

To piggyback off of RaginCajun83, The NFL has known about concussions since the last 70's early 80's. Remember back in the day it was your bell got rung. I remember reading in Sports Illustrated once Merrill Hoge talked about how he was blowing on eggs to cool them off. At least his brain still thought they were eggs, he said he looked down and saw he was blowing on oranges. Troy Aikman is on record saying he doesn't remember the 2nd half of the 1993 NFC Championship Game due to a concussion and Shannon Sharpe said the same thing regarding the 1998 Championship Game against The Jets. I remember Al Toon stating that he has mood swings due to the head trauma's he took as a receiver. The NFL has known for quite some time about the dangers of head trauma but they never cared. That's why they are still using a helmet from Riddell that is woefully outdated.

These are the results you get when you have a con-artist lawyer masquerading as an NFL Commissioner.

Anybody think it's rather convenient that the huge amount of FanDuel and DraftKings ads conveniently just went away about the time fans started seeing some really rigged games or statistical outcomes this year? Hook customers, make tons of money illegally, hide. Fantasy football a game of skill? Give me a break!

Has anyone noticed that Der Kommisar has been absent from the public eye every since the Ray Rice incident? His reputation took a bad hit and he's just waiting on people to forget. Then he will jump back in the lime talking about the integrity of the shield. Bull ****!!! :brood:

We're still recovering from Bountygate. That set us back years between draft choices and having to replace a defensive coordinator that was doing a great job and building his roster how he saw fit.

Re: Mike Florio Calls Bullshinski on Bountygate and the NFL's Beatdown on the Saints

I'll always remember Troy Aikman and other NFL players saying that what The Saints were accussed of was tame compared to what they went through back in the day. I remember Reggie White admitting to have a cash for crunch NFL sanctioned contest that was actually shown on one of the NFL sunday shows back in the day.

Payton had enough of GW after the 2011 playoffs and his contract had ran out. The powers that be didn't bring him back before anything came to light. As for the draft, when was the last time the Saints did well in the second round?

Kikiha. Lol. Before that Tracy Porter, Roman Harper, Jon Stinchcomb, and Lecharles Bentley. We don't often have a 2nd round pick for whatever reason.

3 of those were in the Haslett days before Payton showed up and cleaned house, TP had 2 great games when here. Harper was abused in pass coverage. Lets not forget that future HoF SBJ in 2014 as well (sarcasm)

Kikiha has shown potential but lets wait until he's had a career to judge

They used 2nd round picks to acquire Shockey and Vilma, the other 2 they lost well you know

I'd send a 2nd rounder for a Guard or a pass rusher right now.

You only have to look at the players drafted around our stolen picks

2012
Lavonte David,one pick before
Vinny Curry
Oliver Vernon
Russell Wilson

2013
Jamie Collins
Tyrann Mathieu
Kawann Short
David Amerson
Kiko Alonso
