Veteran G Jahri Evans wasn't taking paycut from Saints
1 Attachment(s)
"The Saints came to us for the second year in a row about doing a little contract adjustment and pay cut this year," Jerrold Colton, the agent for the six-time Pro Bowl guard said on WIP (Philadelphia) this week. "We weren't going to do it again.
"He's healthy and hungry and looking forward to the next chapter of his career." Evans agreed to restructure his deal last year, which helped the cap-strapped Saints save about $4 million. This year, they needed to shave as much as possible off the $8.2 million Evans was set to cost them in 2016. Instead, they'll be watching him play football somewhere else. Healthy?!
If that is true then he has certainly declined from his prime. |
Re: Veteran G Jahri Evans wasn't taking paycut from Saints
I guess he didn't learn from Evan Mathis last year, who ended up with a $2 million pay cut

Re: Veteran G Jahri Evans wasn't taking paycut from Saints
this could actually be one of the few times the Saints let a player go a year to early than a year to late, seems to work for New England

Re: Veteran G Jahri Evans wasn't taking paycut from Saints
Well, it worked out pretty good for Carl Nicks,.

I know I am in the minority but I think the saints missed out trading him to the Bills last year if the rumors were correct.

Re: Veteran G Jahri Evans wasn't taking paycut from Saints
32, missed 5 games last year, and was cut by a team playing within a win-now window
I don't wish ill on on him, but he made a mistake He counts $5.1 mil against anyway, AND he forfeited another million roster bonus, so he'd need to sign for 5+ to break even, and that's not going to happen |
Re: Veteran G Jahri Evans wasn't taking paycut from Saints
I want a stud at OG, Evans play was average at best last season. Payton might go FA on the G position but even so I would take 1 in the 3rd just to fortify G.

Re: Veteran G Jahri Evans wasn't taking paycut from Saints
and to think OG Collins was there twice in the 3rd round and they passed on him for a back QB that will never play and a CB with character issues. I swear someone was throwing darts that round to make picks

Re: Veteran G Jahri Evans wasn't taking paycut from Saints
Cant blame anyone for not touching Collins. His name was in a murder rap, even if he wasn't a suspect. His agent was also saying he might not sign with anyone if he wasn't a first or second round pick. I think there was a deal in place with Dallas if he wasn't selected in the 1/2 round.

Even after kicking the tires and seeing what was in the tank? No hometown discount? Just more proof he trusts in Spags!!

Re: Veteran G Jahri Evans wasn't taking paycut from Saints
We knew (or should've known) we need a Guard or Guards. Wish we'd selected Jackson (FL State) with 1 of our 3rd round picks AND Collins in th 7th.
7th normally worth a gamble. Even if Collins sat out grumpy this year we'd have his rights for years. Lesson learned, I hope. |

He said he wanted to get out of Louisiana. We did talk to his agent, and was told that. His agent said if he wasn't selected in round 1, he'd sit out until next season's draft. Quote:
