Rams have cut Chris Long

Any chance we pick him up? He could give us a very nice duo pairing with Cam Jordan.

Also allows us to address DT as first priority.

I don't know what he has left in the tank from looking at his numbers, but maybe we could rejuvenate him. I'm down.

I think he suffered a couple injuries which is why his numbers are lower than normal.

However looking at players like Dwight Freeney and Demarcus Ware and the success they've had late in their career, we could get a steal if we signed Long.

I know Chris has been hurt this past season but this dude don't take plays off.

Kick the tires ...he can help our defense.

I'd be happy with it. Just not for some crazy ass price. I'm sure we won't see it. But it'd be cool. I think he's got 3 years left in the tank.

"He missed 10 games in 2014 with an ankle injury, and then broke a bone in his knee in Week 5 this season to keep him out of four games and ineffective the rest of the year. Long lost his starting job to William Hayes."

someone get Loomis on the phone, he's a 2nd level JJ Watt. This guy would improve our Defense in a heart beat

Which Chris Long? The stud from 3 years ago or the one that hasn't played well and stayed injured the last 2 years?

It wouldn't hurt to kick the tires, just don't kick them too hard.

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

They also released TE Cook and LOD Animal's boy

Right now he's better than anything on this team defensive line wise, bring him in

That assessment is based on what exactly?

Cam Jordan disagrees.

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

If we can indeed get him at a fair price, considering his injuries, I'd absolutely take him. He's a really solid around player, who can at times be dominant. When I see what Kevin Williams brought to our defense in his limited role, I can see Chris having an impact, as he is a good bit younger. He might not ever be at his full potential again, but if he were, we wouldn't be having this conversation. We'd never sniff a deal with him.

James Laurinaitis sparks a bigger interest than long.

veteran quality depth on the cheap might not be a bad thing for the young pups

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

Yes...bring him in, please. We need help (any help) on the Front 7. Even if he's rotational, he's an upgrade at D-line depth which we desperately need.

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

Reminds me of Byrd and Spiller.

The only problem with Jairus Byrd and CJ Spiller was injuries. And they weren't that bad to start with.

Now people are wanting to bring in Chris Long, who has had more injury problems than Byrd and Spiller combined?

I don't get it.

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

I kind of am tired of this let's sign 30 year old players and this whole "underdog" stuff. And last thing we need is rotation. We need a every down pass rusher. We already went the older player route last season and it didn't exactly work out too well.

Danno 02-19-2016 06:14 PM

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

I'm tired of people that assume since a player was awesome 3 or 4 years ago, that they're still just as awesome.

I really liked him when he came into the league and he has been a really good player. Just not sure how good he will be going forward.

I've read this thread, and I'm not sure what you're not getting. I haven't seen anyone say he was going to be awesome. It seems pretty unanimous, including my own opinion, that he would be a GOOD player at the RIGHT price.

And your comparison with Byrd and Spiller? We're talking a lot less money here, or all bets are off. So what is confusing about any of that?

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

If we sign Chris maybe Howie will say something nice about us for a change.

RaginCajun83 02-20-2016 12:56 AM

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

Spiller has been hurt almost every year since he was drafted. Long has only had serious injuries problems in 2014. Last season, it was minor issues that kept him out of 4 games. He's no way made of glass and he would be an upgrade over anyone on this defense now

Not saying they give him JR money but a vet min contract wouldn't hurt, god forbid the team got better

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

I have to agree with Hagan - I'm more intrigued by Laurinaitis than Long.

K Major 02-20-2016 06:27 AM

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

Laurinatis is a inside tackling beast but he can't cover TE's and has very little value as a pass rusher.

Pass.

No I think he is done. I don't see us picking up someone who can't stay healthy anymore.

Danno 02-20-2016 07:38 AM

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

Like Burn said, it all depends on their asking price. At the right price, I'd take all of them.
And it's true that we've hit on a quite a few aging players that still had some gas in the tank.
I'm not against it as much as I think there may be some better options

If there are better options, I'm absolutely all for it. I just get the feeling we're going to be bargain basement shopping, which is why Long is intriguing to me as a possible low risk sign. We shall see.

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

Tamba Hali is the better option as a pass rusher. I've also got to pose the question, are we running 3-4 or 4-3? If we're running a 3-4 then Long might not fit. If we're running a 4-3, cool, but are we then making Kikiha a pass rushing DE and in turn in need of a new OLB? So many questions.

Re: Rams have cut Chris Long

Lets get Cromartie and long. Then trade up to get best NT in the draft and add some more pieces on Defense with maybe a tight end in the 2nd

I don't think there is any chance we get burned again with an aging vet (Cromartie) & he is no longer the player he once was. I'd prefer the likes of Trumaine Johnson if we were looking at a FA corner.

Stay younger, faster, stronger.

I've got to go with a thumbs up if the price is right.
