New Orleans Saints will look to add tight ends in free agency, draft, Mickey Loomis tells radio station

The New Orleans Saints will look to add multiple tight ends through free agency and the draft, general manager Mickey Loomis said in a radio interview Tuesday with SiriusXM.

During an interview in which Loomis said the team had not yet begun talks with Drew Brees about a contract extension, the GM noted Josh Hill and Jack Tabb as possible options at the position where expected free agent Benjamin Watson posted career-best numbers in 2015.

"He's kind of been in the background behind Jimmy Graham when he was here and Benjamin last year as well," Loomis said of Hill, according to interview excerpts posted to the Saints team site. "He's got a lot of talent. I know this -- he's a versatile tight end in that he can help us in the pass game and the run game. We are excited about him."

Loomis noted Tabb as "a college free agent (who) was doing some really good things in training camp and he was injured."

"We got a couple other prospects that we'll see how it goes," Loomis said. "And look, we're hoping to add a few in free agency and the draft."

Please don't make Josh Hill out to be a future HOFer like Payton did last off season.

I don't like the tone- it's as if he already considers Watson gone.
We have much, much bigger problems than TE, so I hope we cough up the extra million and lock down Watson.

As for Hill, the door was opened for him last year, but he stayed on the porch. Maybe even under the porch

Hill was good when he played under the radar. But when he got a defenses full attention he had nothing left to offer.

C'mon man, Payton didn't make him out to be anything more than an intriguing prospect.

I don't know how to refer poat from my phone but there were people saying that he was going to be a big redzone threat...when I get on my laptop I'll try to post them. Either way I don't believe he is the answer and being that we might lose Watson we need to find a reliable target.

there were many (me too) that thought this offense was so plug and play that even Hill could come in and pull off 45-50 catches, close to a 1000 yards and about 5-7 TDs due to his size and Brees

The two I really like in the draft are are polar opposites

R2 - Hunter Henry - standup Jimmy TE/WR split
R3 - Nick Vannett - more the traditional Ben Watson TE

The rest do little to thrill me and I see way to many other players of value that fill team needs to honestly take any of them.

Lol on the "all Drew draft". Not a lot of huge names coming out of college for TE's but Hunter is head and shoulders the best one out there.

Side note: I'm all in on drafting a kicker.

I would like to see what Jack Tabb can do when healthy. I can still see us taking a flyer on a player in the 5th round and lower. I not sold on Hill, didn't show me anything last season.

Screw Gresham. He had his chance last year and he signed with Arizona. I would be intrigued by whichever TE The Colts don't re-sign out of Fleener and Allen. I would love to see Ben Watson back on a 1 year deal to mentor the next TE's.
