Saints may return home for camp this year

Reports saying that Saints may not go to West Virginia this spring.

I hope so because I think that "resort" is making them soft. Jmo of course.

Big Plus!
Enough of the Day Spa.

Either come back to NOLA, or if you really want to be Battle Ready, take it
back to Jackson. The great fans in Mississippi deserve it, and a preseason
game.

Maybe Payton doesn't want Hard Knocks to show how much of a vacation it is in West Virginia.

This NEEDS to happen. We were soft coming off the last two years in camp. Time to man up and get in game shape early to start the year off right and build momentum.

The team that practiced in metarie under the intense heat certainly played better as a unit.

Well ...

Rotten - I ain't so sure about that & here me out . Metarie in late May - August .. WHEW :cursing: humidity, sun, 100+ degree temps in the shade etc can be an absolute beat down at TC. Players are more prone to repeated cramps, heat exhaustion and dehydration. Some of the bigger issues for the Saints and winning had more to do with having an extremely young team on D, coaches & the level of talent in camp vs Greenbriar, WV. I just don't see how practicing in high humidity can assist in conditioning but that's just me.

Denver, NE, Seattle, Ravens, Giants (all recent SB winners) have TC's in higher altitude type settings.

Flame away :p.

I never thought it was the location that was the problem either. Other teams practice in milder climates and don't have a problem at all. We looked soft several years ago when we practiced at Millsaps.

Heat, humidity and rain are problems down here. Perhaps they plan on practicing in the indoor facility more than usual.

Poor choice on a few levels. Don't understand it. There are ways to mitigate the heat.

Stay home & suck it up. They can practice indoors on brutally hot days.

So,they'll be indoors pretty much every practice. In July and August every day is brutally hot. I know- I work outdoors.

Was hoping they were moving training camp back to South Louisiana (Thibodaux, LA even better)...

Re: Saints may return home for camp this year

Way too much HS mentality in this thread. Raising the risk for injury by practising in really hot conditions won't hel, it won't make a team tougher. It will make a team come in to the season worn down. That is something that might work in HS but not in the pros.

It's the mental toughness. We do not have it. Heat injuries can be mitigated.

A- I don't think we lack mental toughness. I think we lack fundamentals.

B- I don't think mental toughness can be acquired simply by changing location of a training camp.

C- I think improved fundamentals is a result of emphasis and coaching. Location has nothing to do with that.

Go run a few miles on a balmy Tuesday in a mild climate. Then come run a few miles with me with a heat index of over 100. I will show you what I'm talking about. You will fail if not use to it or start walking. This is why the military trains in rough climates. Most of the major schools are located in areas with severe weather fluctuations. I could give you more specific examples but I will leave it at that. It prepares one mentally for an uncommon exterior stress. Even if you play half the game indoors you will be mentally and physically stronger to push harder than someone who does not.

Saints returning to the Greenbrier for training camp

1 Attachment(s)
It looks like the New Orleans Saints might be staying in White Sulphur Springs, W Va. after all this summer.

A source told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune the Saints are going back to the Greenbrier Resort where they have held training camp for the past two years. That contradicts a report by FOX sports earlier on Wednesday that said they might be considering staying home in Metairie.

http://image.nola.com/home/nola-medi...62a3c1e51e.JPG

The Saints have not announced anything official, so it's possible plans could continue to change. They announced their training camp schedule in mid-June last year, and spent 24 days there before returning to Metairie.

They are entering the final year of a three-year contract with the resort, which built a new training facility for the Saints to use.

It certainly is hard to disagree with you. I train for rugby outdoors and play better against northern teams who aren't used to the humidity.

However, the Saints do play in a dome.
