Josh Scobee next to test kicker's Bermuda Triangle by joining Saints

1 Attachment(s)
As I've done in the past, I want to welcome Josh Scobee to the Bermuda Triangle for kickers. The New Orleans Saints added the veteran kicker, Scobee announced on his Facebook page.

No kicker was under contract for the Saints heading into 2016 before this move. Adding Scobee means the land of disappearing kickers may have consumed Kai Forbath.

It's not totally off the wall to re-sign Forbath to compete with Scobee for the starting job. But I would imagine the Saints would look for a younger kicker this offseason to compete with Scobee for the starting gig.

I mentioned this in the Kai Forbath thread but figured it wouldn't be seen as easily there. Looks like we'll have another kicking competition in training camp only for Payton to pick the wrong one!

Re: Saints Sign Kicker Josh Scobee

Doesn't matter who our kicker is. If he doesn't make 100% of his kicks; people will be calling for his head.

Because you know kicker is the only position you must be perfect

Saints FO really need to consider drafting a competent kicker in 2016.

I'm serious.

Kickers are moving up the food chain on teams. I would also look at drafting one. What round? I say 7th. Almost every team passes them up even late. I also think Morestead needs to take a haircut on his salary, way to steep for a kicker to pin opponents back just to let our D to get walked on.

Great kicker in Jacksonville... Embarrassing in Pittsburgh. Career 80%.

I'm up for anything that will improve our kicking.

But Pitt in the second half of the season has always been considered the hardest stadium to kick in. so I give him a little rope. Plus dome kicking might be what the doctor ordered.

I am sticking with
UDFA Brad Craddock K Maryland 6003 192 4.88

Either way if whatever kicker can handle the kick off duties I would guess Thomas Morstead might get a bit nervous.

cap vs dead
2016 $4,450,000 $1,200,000
2017 $4,000,000 $250,000
2018 $4,150,000

Punter are there also this year. top on my list
UDFA Peter Mortll P Minnesota 6012 192 4.94

so I am interested at the kickoff capabilities which could make drafting a kicker not out of the question. To save some 3 mill in cap this year. But you need a punter that excels at pinning teams inside not only inside the 20 but Coffin corner and killing a punt inside the 10 as well. Booming 60 and 70 yard'ers are nice and needed when when your offense stinks. accuracy and directional punting IMO is a bigger issue.

Love sighing like this. It opens a whole new can of worms.

Can Thomas Morstead be replaced on the cheap?

Kickers seem a lot more important since they have moved the extra points back. I would much rather have a good kicker over a good punter.

This is a terrible move. He was not as good at the end of his Jacksonville term. No more vet kickers, we need a young stud kicker.

boy oh boy scoobee do used to be my favorite in fantay in seems another time period ago, he was solid, it was money or injury that cost him in Jacksonville? can remember. again payton sikes his kickers into failure again. just take a solid stat kicker out of college and leave him alone to thrive. think its time to get morestad off the nipple. get a little cap cash back for the same as above, solid college punter and let him be.

I think he was here and gone already. Remember SP chose to get Hockered up instead.

New Orleans Saints

Hopkins was signed to the New Orleans Saints practice squad on December 17, 2014.[7] He was then signed to a future/reserve contract at the end of the 2014 season and competed for placekicking duties with Shayne Graham.[8]

On September 5, 2015, the Saints announced they had released Hopkins after losing the competition to Zach Hocker.[9]
Washington Redskins

Hopkins was signed by the Washington Redskins on September 14, 2015, after they had released Kai Forbath.[10]

Not a huge dropoff, but a dropoff from the mediocre kicker we had. What does SP expect Scobee to do in the dome differently than in Jacksonville or Pittsburgh? Is he thinking Scobee wasn't on a good team in Jacksonville that led to his decline? I really hope he does not start.

scobee sucks, wtf are we doing this for? He was 6-10 in Pitt and 3-7 over 40 yards. This is just ****ing stupid

Did you see what Shayne Graham did while at Atlanta? 11- 13 longest of 54. He couldn't hit from 35 here!

yeah, he used to be. Now he is older and not as accurate...at least not last year in his spot duty with the steelers

IIRC he was hurt last year. Still don't like it but I'm looking for a silver lining somewhere.

What is wrong with our coach? Why do we keep getting these recycled kickers year in year out. Just effin draft one and stick with him for a bit before giving up on him.

Ive always said that SP messes with our kickers' heads too much. Testing their mental toughness constantly. It gets old.

Never, never draft a failed receiver who switched to CB for a couple of years in college because of his size when there's a kicker who has yet to miss from inside the 40...
