Cadet returns
This time, the New Orleans Saints made sure to bring back Travaris Cadet.
The Saints announced Thursday that they re-signed the versatile backup running back/receiver/kick returner. A source confirmed it is a one-year deal, though terms have not been disclosed. Cadet, 27, began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Saints in 2012, but they let him go as a restricted free agent last year. He then came back to New Orleans in December after brief stints with the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers -- and he finished strong. Cadet caught nine passes for 146 yards and a touchdown over the final two weeks last year, while also running the ball four times for 12 yards and serving as a kickoff and punt returner. Cadet could play a similar role for the Saints this year, though he’ll face much more competition now that Mark Ingram, C.J. Spiller and Marcus Murphy are all expected to return from injuries. The Saints could also wind up re-signing free- agent running back Tim Hightower, and they signed Vick Ballard in January. Cadet (6-foot-1, 210 pounds) has always been used primarily as a kick returner and pass-catcher out of the backfield -- and even as a true receiver early in his career. For his career, he has 1,387 kickoff return yards, 559 receiving yards, 65 rushing yards and three receiving touchdowns. |
