Okay, I know someone broached this subject before, and cause of the kid's off the field problems I kinda poo-pooed it, but it appears he has been really impressive at the combine. Had the 2nd most velocity on his passes, and was one of the most accurate. Number two in long jump and vertical jump too. I am kinda feeling like a 3rd round pick wouldn't be a waste on this kid if we don't get someone before then.

One of the top sleepers in this draft is former Florida State quarterback Adrian McPherson, who honed his skills in the Arena Football League after being forced out of the Seminoles' football program because of off-field issues. McPherson displayed nice velocity, posting the second fastest timed passes at the Combine with a speed of 57.2mph. He also displayed his athletic ability by posting second best among all quarterbacks in the broad jump and vertical jump while finishing fourth in the shuttle and fifth in the 40. However, it was his arm strength and accuracy that had scouts buzzing.

What was his off the field problems again? Gambling, was it?

Gambling on college football and floating bad checks.

Yes it was. Not too bad. We dohave a casino down the street from the dome though. ;) But I can live with that, It wasn\'t drugs or anything, and with all the steroid stuff and such coming out, I am looking at gambling as a lesser evil, whereas a few months ago the guy\'s character totally turned me off of him. I think he is worth a shot. I wouldn\'t mind spending a 3rd on a guy who will sit the pine for a year or two and may very well end up being one of the better QBs to come out of the draft.

Tomb, I doubt he will have to do either with an NFL salary, hopefully. They were impressed with him at the combine. That\'s why I said maybe a 3rd on him. Nothing drastic. And depending on what we get for Howard, we may have the extra pick to spend.

So, Tomb, would you place gambling somewhere between beating your wife and dope smoking?
I floated bad checks in college too. I hope none of my fans are reading this. :o

BNB, you\'re off the good guy list. :P

Well BnB, I\'m sure not gonna draft you now! ;)

Yea I posted a whole article about him a while back... it was a pretty good read if someone is willing to go search for it. It\'s titled in his name.

Anyways, I\'m all for drafting a qb period. He seems like a good prospect and he\'s basically been cleaning up his act in the AFL. No problems that have been publicized since he\'s been there. Maybe he matured and maybe we should take a chance on this guy. He might be a diamond in the rough and it might also light a fire under AB\'s you know what.

Adrian + Burboun Street + boobie bars + casino = diaster.

Since I\'m a positive guy, I say go for it and take our chances. Wait nevermind we have Saints management. He\'s going to be screwed if he comes over here. :casstet:

Not at all....I engage in a little recreational gambling myself from time to time. I would actually like to see McPherson in the Black and Gold, just as long as we don\'t reach for him. He can be had in the 3rd or 4th.

This draft forcast is way too cloudy right now though....then again isn\'t it always cloudy when it comes to this team? When\'s the last time we picked the guy in the first round that we expected to pick? ;)

Well, damn, my draft stock is dropping faster than John Chaney\'s morals. :crying:

EDIT: Would the answer be Ricky Williams?

You do look pretty mean in your avatar pic, so I may still draft you, even if you have off-field problems. I like a guy with a mean streak and some heart. But not before the second day.

EDIT: I heard that you once ate a guy\'s liver because he took your parking space. That should go a long way toward intimidating opposing players, even if you\'re likely to be a locker room cancer.

I\'d rather have charlie frye, walter, or the QB from harvard-all seem to be better players with much less character issues.

One of my all time favorite quotes regarding my avatar, by whowatches, one of the many that no longer posts here that I do miss.

Quote:

... and if Baby Jesus cries, Darren will have to make you eat one of the walnuts he\'s crushing with his butt-cheeks.

Mmmm... salty.
Makes me laugh to this day. I miss you ww.

Frye has been my pick since day one (do a search if you like). The problems that McPherson had at Florida St. are insignificant, and could hardly be referenced to as \"character issues\". What I know of him, he has worked his ass off to get where he is right now, and he looks pretty damn good.
Fitzpatrick is the guy you\'re thinking of from Harvard.

I like McPrherson cause behind our line, he will need to have some athleticism. I don\'t know much about Frye on that end. but I agree BNB the character issues he had are not the deal breaking kind, they were just out of line for NCAA football. He could be a steal in the 3rd. I wouldn\'t be mad if we got Frye though.

As for the character issues, Mcpherson admitted to floating bad checks, but not to gambling- whether he did both I don\'t know.

An article regarding his performance at the combine- near the bottom. Also he ran a 4.72 40 during which he pulled his quad.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...27/tfy.report/

...and his draft profile

http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/pla...mcpherson.html

- An interesting note the last time I posted this (I was the one who brought him up eariler), someone copy-pasted the weaknesses section and then proceeded to say how we shouldn\'t draft him. Not that this guy doesn\'t have character issues, but to completely ignore everything else and not give an overall analysis I think shows how negative this board can be.

I\'d like to see us draft him. I think he has superstar potential. I think some team will take hime him in the second round though.

I think Mcpherson and Alex Smith will be the two best QBs out of this draft. Speaking of which - sometime before draft day I think we should have a thread were we list our top 5 or 10 draft stars and busts. It\'d be interesting to see in a year or two.

Never did think you had much in the way of character, BnB! :)

That\'s a good idea 200, I know I poo-pooed him, but I didn\'t post his negatives. I thought the character issues were bad too, but it doesn\'t seem so heavy to me now, especially since it appears he has talent. And especially in light of recent admissions by BNB. Now that\'s a guy who is off the draft board. ;) But I am sold on the guy now. I like him, or Jason Campbell, although I am more enamored with McPherson\'s upside than Campbell\'s.
