Re: Nick Fairley - SIGNED

I began to wonder if he would sign with the Saints because he's been supposed to sign for a while now.

I am loving this move!

However, I can still see us double dipping at DT in the draft.

1 year, 3 million.

Re: Nick Fairley - SIGNED

Only a 1 year deal...

Wish we at least had an option for a 2nd. It's a good move though. He has had injury issues.

This is a move I am definitely on board with, has a ton of potential.

Not a fan of it but it's a one year deal so i can live with it. I hope he proves me wrong

Young, talented, rotational player. Has never lived up to his draft status and has been basically average. Expecting him to somehow thrive in New Orleans is like catching lightening in a bottle. Hopefully he will be solid at least.

This signing is fine for the money and length. I just don't view this as THE answer at DT. Still hoping to get a real difference maker there in the draft.

What a player he was. When they teamed him up with Norman Hand..holy cow. Not to mention having Joe Johnson around that same time.. I was still young in my fanhood then and didn't fully appreciate what a beastly D line we had for a while there. So many great defensive players who were wasted during all those years of futility.. to have just a couple of them right now.

If he misses the tackle, his former teammate Laurinitis will be right there to back him up :)

Re: Nick Fairley - SIGNED

He hasn't really had a season where he lit up the stat board... Hopefully he and Jenkins can be disruptive enough to free up Jordan and whoever the other DE might be... Just push the pocket back so the QB can't step up into it :bng:

Nick Fairley is a great example of drafting a player with this one key phrase in his scouting report.

Only has one year of production

Not that he is not capable but he went from nothing to the considered the consensus top defensive tackle. 13th pick in the draft and got a boat load of money. It went to his head. His character and work habits were in question

Why take the chance?
he can be a dangerous, gap-shooting defensive tackle who after the past few years may have gotten the humble pie he deserves. It appears his head is screwed on straighter than it has been since getting to the NFL. He is out to prove his critics wrong and more importantly out to prove something to himself. we are all hope.

Go for it.

now we need some more beef

Nick Fairley's contract will limit 2016 salary cap hit, newspaper reports | NOLA.com

Quote:

The Saints' official announcement said Fairley signed a one-year deal, but the actual contract is for three years, the Boston Globe reported. However, the final two years of the contract void automatically if Fairley is still on the roster in February.

The maneuver allows the Saints to spread Fairley's $2.235 million signing bonus over three years, instead of just one, limiting the deal's impact on the 2016 salary cap.

In practice, Fairley signed a one-year, $3 million deal, but it will count only $1.51 million against the 2016 salary cap.

That's a team guy right there. And he doesn't lose any money by restructuring, he just changes how and when he will get it.

I love Cam. I cant believe how many people say we need to get rid of him. That would be one of the most bone headed moves ever

Is 2 or 3 people really "that many"?

Saints sign DT Nick Fairley (1 year, $3 million): A+ Grade
The Saints had been enduring a miserable spring thus far, greatly overpaid for bad players like James Laurinaitis, Josh Hill and Coby Fleener. I had given them a Millen grade in my NFL Free Agent Team Grades page, but this signing moves them out of that territory.

This is an outstanding addition. Nick Fairley is extremely talented and would be playing for a much greater contract if teams weren't concerns for his lethargy issues. It's why Fairley had to sign a 1-year pact last offseason, and he happened to play extremely well for the Rams. It's likely he'll perform just as well for the Saints, given that he'll once again be trying to prove that he's worthy of a big contract. Fairley, who offers no downside here, fills a big hole for the Saints, who desperately needed an interior pass-rusher.

I'm going to love it when 'bad player' Coby Fleener, in tandem with Drew, comes out next year and rips the league a new one.

Love the Fairley singing. Reckon we have done well in FA.

Re: Nick Fairley - SIGNED

But he gives the fact that Atlanta' paying Mack 9.5mil a year a B Vernon getting 18mil a year a B but the Saints are overpaying Lauirinitis and Fleener. I'm not sure the guy knows what he's talking about. I don't care what he gave the Saints for the Fairley signing.

I've got to admit it; I'm happy with the FA signings this off season. Fleener, King Lauirinitus and now Fairley. Some talented guys in positions we really need severe help in. Now they just have to perform.

If the coaching is good, this move will pay off.

He has the ability. Just needs a fire lit.

Thank you Mitch.

I don't have the "HELLYEAH WE'RE GOIN TO THE SUPERBOWL" mentality that I have gotten from other FA pick-ups in the past. I really think we have pick up SOLID players.

Good work FO.
