NFL changes injured reserve rule, gives teams more options

The Annual League Meetings are now over and seven new rule changes have gone into effect. The injured reserve rule, proposed by the Buffalo Bills, was one of the new rules to take effect for the upcoming 2016 season. The old rule was adopted in 2012 and mandated that teams designate a particular player they wanted to return from injured reserve when they were placed on the injured reserve list. The player would them be eligible to come back to practice after six weeks and then be allowed to play in games two weeks later. The new 2016 rule changes that timeframe up a little bit and gives teams more flexibility. Teams will now be allowed to choose one player to return to practice among their players .
