Tom Benson's former assistant, Saints fail to reach settlement
Saints owner Tom Benson's former assistant Rodney Henry and attorneys for the team failed to reach an agreement Monday (April 4) after meeting with a federal judge for more than two hours in Henry's lawsuit alleging racial discrimination and demanding backpay.
The question now is whether Henry's claims will be heard in federal court or be moved to arbitration with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The settlement conference overseen by U.S. Magistrate Judge Joseph Wilkinson included Henry, Henry's attorney Christopher Williams and two attorneys representing the Saints. Tom and Gayle Benson, who are also named in Henry's lawsuit, didn't attend. Williams said no agreement was reached. "We feel very confident about Mr. Henry's claims, and we look forward to the opportunity to present them in court," Williams said. read more |
