Underhill and Erickson take control of the Saints’ mock draft war room, and the 1st pick is Jared Goff
1 Attachment(s)
By now, you’ve read at least a hundred mock drafts, some of them on a weekly basis, and a little fatigue is starting to set into your draft-addled mind. You still click on them, sure, but it’s hard to find a fresh take when you’ve already seen 10 different players projected to the Saints at the 12th pick.
The Advocate’s Saints team is about to change all of that. The problem with most mocks is simple: the drafter is making decisions for all 32 teams, rather than reacting to the unpredictability of 31 other teams with a bunch of general managers who might have a completely different board sitting in front of them. OFF THE BOARD Titans: CB Jalen Ramsey Browns: OT Laremy Tunsil Chargers: DE Joey Bosa Cowboys: DE Deforest Buckner Jaguars: LB Myles Jack Ravens: CB Vernon Hargreaves 49ers: QB Carson Wentz Eagles: OT Ronnie Stanley Bucs: CB Eli Apple Giants: DE Shaq Lawson Bears: DT A’Shawn Robinson Joel: Oh no. I think I know where we’re headed. http://blogs.theadvocate.com/blackan...16/04/goff.jpg Nick: We got ourselves a situation here. The Titans threw a wrinkle in everything by taking Jalen Ramsey first, which set off a chain reaction that caused Jared Goff to slide a little bit. This is a good example of how an unexpected pick or two can alter expectations. Now the Saints have a decision to make. We don’t know how the negotiations with Drew Brees are going. If it’s close, you try to deal this pick to the Rams and stock up on picks. If it’s not close, and you think Goff could be your guy for the next 10-15 years, you have to seriously consider taking him at this spot. Joel: Right off the bat, the scenario opens one minor flaw in the process — namely, that we don’t know whether negotiations with Brees are close or not. But if I’m correct, you’re in favor of taking Goff even if Brees re-signs, right? Nick: I wouldn’t hate it in theory. I also wouldn’t hate passing on him to maximize the window with Brees — especially if you’re going to be committed to him for four or five years. But if you really think that Goff could be your guy, it would be hard to pass up on this opportunity. These kinds of situations — Favre to Rodgers, Manning to Luck — don’t happen very often. You could be set for the foreseeable future. It can be hard to look at what’s going to be best for your team 10 years down the road when there are immediate needs, but you also have to take a long view. read more |

I've seen worst draft picks by the Saints in the first round.

I read about similarities between Goff and Jay Cutler. I havent seen enough of him to draw my own personal opinion, but that scares me.

Trying to remember that other Cal QB who kept dropping on the draft. Think it was 2005?
anyway, no, don't draft Goff and no, I haven't read 100 mock drafts. It's closer to 4 |
Re: Underhill and Erickson take control of the Saints’ mock draft war room, and the 1st pick is Jared Goff
Drafting Goff and Powe would be quite intriguing, I think...

I am not hating the pick at all actually. Take a shot on a future QB to replace Brees. Seriously Brees with us 4 more yeas... I don't see it.
The pick is this - QB of the future or if we hope Brees can hang on for a few years we are drafting the WR. |

Goeff I can see the love and understand it. He throws some pretty passes. But he has that serious laid back California kid thing with him just like Peat That always makes me wonder about the fire in his belly. But there are safer picks to had at 12 still on the board. Kevin Hogan late in the draft is a solid developmental QB option IMO. Maybe lol Definitely a draft fill with motivation questions and stepping up. |
Re: Underhill and Erickson take control of the Saints’ mock draft war room, and the 1st pick is Jared Goff
I would not be mad at this. Let Drew play out this year and if he does not want to make a deal then we have ourselves a backup plan and a extra 30 million in cap room net year.

No way Goff falls to #12. Sorry folks but someone will jump over us if he even gets close.
And Eli Apple and Ronnie Stanley won't go in the top 10. #mockdraftcancelled |

Now would be good time to start reading "Insights with Mike Detillier" for insider information on Saints draft board. He has nailed our first pick the last couple of years & counting.
Side note - isn't Goff the kid with the so called small hands? |

Seems like we could spend the pick a little more wisely. I'm getting that old SJB feeling just thinking about going developmental in the first couple of rounds.

With Jeff Ireland & his crew in year two, expect to see another solid draft. In my opinion SAnthony, K Sizzle, Swann, Tull, Murphy, Peat & PJ were very good draft selections & contributors as rookies. Trust and believe brother :bng: ! |

NFL Draft: With 'bigger' hands, Jared Goff dazzles scouts at Cal's pro day More critical to Goff's ultimate stock was his size (specifically his hand size) and whether he could duplicate the production he enjoyed at sunny Berkeley in the blustery conditions which sometimes show up playing in Cleveland, for example. Goff received early good news Friday when his hand was measured in an eighth of an inch larger than the 9 inches reported at the combine. Why Goff's hand "grew" in a month is anyone's guess but Friday's news is positive given that Jackson was among the NFL executives questioned in Indianapolis who voiced concerns over hand size. I would hope that we go D-line in the first and possibly an additional pick later. Robinson would be just fine with me and I'd have no problem getting to sleep after that pick.

as long as its NOT Treadwell or a QB than I'll be fine with whoever they pick in the first round

Re: Underhill and Erickson take control of the Saints’ mock draft war room, and the 1st pick is Jared Goff
I am not at all against looking down the road with a pick. It is very hard to find all-pro caliber QB's, so rather than waiting for Brees to retire, not knowing how effective he'll be in a couple of years, if you have a QB available who you think is THE guy, I think you should strongly consider taking him.
That said, I'm not a Goff fan. I can see the ability he has, but I also have noticed that he's been very up and down. He's not what I would call a surgeon of the passing game. Yes, he could get better, but when you're drafting who you believe to be the future of your franchise, you'd like to see that player be a bit further along than Goff is. I fully expect to go defense in the first round, but if by some crazy chance they go with a QB, I'd rather Paxton Lynch. |
