When Vilma came to the saints
He didn't have an effect the first year, but he did the second year. We could say it was GW, Sharper, Greer that had an impact but Vilma was the leader. Vilma maybe needed a year to learn the schemes and all before he was able to use his vision. This is possibly a scenario with Laurinitis, he may need a year to get used to the system.

Re: When Vilma came to the saints
Maybe, but when Vilma came on board our LB crew may have been the worst unit in NFL history.
Laurinitis has a lot more talent around him right now than Vilma did. Granted its a lot of very young guys, but the talent is there. |
Re: When Vilma came to the saints
I feel this LB crew has the potential to be the strongest part of the defense. If Fairly shows up this defense could be really mean.

And that's what we are relying on...fairley. That right there being a unknown is why we are currently the "aints" in the outside world. And it sucks.

No, because he was a rookie and has a lot of learning to do. Vilma was seasoned. He knew many things but not the saints schemes. |

Re: When Vilma came to the saints
This is the deepest we've been at linebacker since the early 90s...
Not nearly as good, but an indictment of how bad we've been at linebacker considering depth... Now the Fujita, Vilma and Shanle group wasn't all too bad; Shanle got waaaaay too much grief for poor safety support in pass coverage... |
