So Byrd was hurt last year

Healthy Jairus Byrd, Keenan Lewis could lift the Saints' defense - NFL Nation- ESPN

Any more secrets?

I'll believe it when I see it.

Brees played with a dodgy shoulder and an injured foot and statistically still had a great year.

Re: So Byrd was hurt last year

^I already knew that. The foot injury though was week 15.

That is one thing that bothers me is Brees keeps quiet about his injuries. In 2010 we didn't know he was still hurt and found out after the loss to Seattle.

But Byrd being hurt still last year bothers me. What is Payton doing this year to cut down on injuries?

I thought everyone knew Byrd was still not 100% last year.

Just an FYI, C J Spiller was also hurt last year

Do we have a spa or a trainer's room?!?

Re: So Byrd was hurt last year

Byrd is never in anywhere near the ball
And usually 15 yards too far back

When he is, he gets blown away

He was turned around three times on a td in the Colts game
Burnt to the crisp in the second Panthers game - manage to grab an arm one play, stood still in the endzone while a lone Panther was in his zone area on a third and goal from the 17
Ran into Lewis on an obvious interception in another game

Pathetic

Big bust

We had no running backs that game

Needing a third and one and asking Reggie to do it
Right

Yes, it did look like Ryan had him playing too far off the ball. But thats the coaches fault.

And QB's often throw away from safeties. Brees is a master at faking the safety toward the right, then throwing left.

And you can't blame the Center Fielder for errors by the 2nd Baseman and Shortstop.

Lewis played with heart even right after the injury in the SanFran game

I'll give you point that they don't utilize Byrd best in their schemes. But where is the ball hawk we blew good money on that was going to seal a championship?

Watch Byrd's play really closely on NFL rewind in the Saints Panthers second game

3rd quarter. Panthers have a third and goal at 17 (from an offensive penalty)
5 guys in the endzone covering. One of the dbs on the left has to come up a little on a player. Byrd covers (oops, I mean stands there) the area next to him and just stands there as Gynn is the only guy within 10 yards of him and he is clearly his man to cover - wide open - Cam threads the ball in - 6 pts.

4th quarter. Receiver runs a post, starts to get seperation. Byrd is in perfect position as the receiver is coming right to him, he should make a play on the ball, int, or at least swat it away, instead he barely grabs the guys arm in interference and he waltzes 20 more yards into the endzone

14 points mostly attributed to Byrd

We lost by how many points in this shootout?

To keep down the defensive injuries SP is keeping the defense off the feild as much as possible. He is allowing teams to score much quicker this year.

I'm actually much more excited about Lewis being back. With two lock down corners maybe Byrd will have less responsibilities and DA will play him a little more to his skill set.

Well I really meant camp injuries. Every camp we have players we didn't need going down going down. And why would SP allow teams to score quicker?

If I hear Spiller or Byrd are unhealthy during camp, they better stay off the field until they are 100%.

And a pass rush. QB's get desperate and hurry their throws when they're pressured. Thats a free safety's dream.

Byrd hasn't seen a pass rush in front of him in 3 years.

Yea me too. In fact I thought I saw at least a post a day from 90% of the posters here whining about the fact we gave too much money for him to be injured.

As to keeping quiet, that is just part of the game.

People give Byrd ****, and probably rightfully so to an extent, but when the guy has been on the field he has made an impact. I think a 100% Byrd may surprise this year.

You've been on this board long enough to know that when it comes down to it, we can find a way to blame anyone for anything.

Dude, Thanks - that absolutely cracked me up; hey, I wanna see it to, but it hasn't happened and likely not going to either...

If Byrd isn't an All-Pro this year - he's a gone pecan...

He got smoked by Ted Gynn on an obvious 3rd and long against the BlackCats...let me repeat...smoked by Ted Gynn...

Only impact he's making is the arse dimple in the contours of the whirlpool or on a stationary bike seat...

Yes, that will happen when it is a lifetime ago, and 3 years removed is a lifetime in the NFL

Pivotal year for him I think for both reasons.

I am mostly playing devil's advocate, but truthfully he needs to be healthy and play well

Saints

Get good players not the highest profile FA nugget (outbidding on ebay)
Don't go for the big splash
Make salary performance incentive based
Don't bring in fragile players whose initial team is passing on

Just ask Hightower. He'd probably tell Byrd to hang 'em up.
