When they are standing in line running routes at training camp Meachem can give advice to the younger players around them. There is a lot of coaching that goes on between snaps. If we draft a young speedster he is a veteran mentor. That alone is worth his small paycheck.
It's highly unlikely that he makes the final 53 but he will be in shape and familiar with the system if a receiver goes down and we need a late season replacement. It worked for Hightower last year.
