Saints sign 2-time All American C/G

From Michigan State. Probably slipped through the cracks because of size, but apparently this guy can play. Possibly our offensive version of Sam Mills?

A shorter center or guard is not a problem, especially not when your QB is barely 6 feet tall. Just like for DTs a shorter C will most likely have a lower center of gravity and a good starting point to get under DTs creating great leverage. I would hover not mind at all if he could put on another 10lbs to have a little more mass in combating big NTs.

I also like the Coach Roushar connection, the Saints should know very well what they are getting.

I think there's a chance this kid shows up and starts this year. He could be a really special player.

Says he can play all the O-line.

Diamond in the rough?

Training camp should be fun.

With our Guard situation, he would probably consider it a failure if he didn't crack the starting lineup.

In all seriousness though, seems like a nice signing.

I can see both Jack Allen and Landon Turner getting big reps in the preseason to guage how ready they are for the prime time spotlight.

Oh great. We've got a slow footed tackle and an undersized center. We need to sign or trade for a veteran.

Ha! Way to crash the party Rugby. :clown: I kind of agree though. These two will be working their tails off to make the practice squad.

well his test will come against the panthers

We run a zone blocking scheme. Nalen was an all-pro center and he was definitely undersized. Denver ran a similar blocking scheme. The kid may have a chance.

Good point. Zone run blocking requires athleticism more than power. Allen does kinda fit that mold.

Sure hope the kids better than some of the other kids! No kidding!

It's not so much his measurables vs NFL norms, it's his size in the type of zone block scheme the Saints utilize could make his fit, well, problematic...

For Brees' Pocket Protection, Saints use a three man wedge/crenellation (castle battlement) using big long tackles to swing pass rushers out on longer arcs...

Don't see using a smallish center/guard working very well in that system; kinda why we traded Graham for a big All-Pro center in Max Unger...

If you review the current Saints roster report JP has out, we have a added in a nice amount of competition for the Guard spot. I think one of the UDFA will emerge at camp (see below).

Top seven undrafted free-agent classes following 2016 NFL Draft - NFL.com

FWIW, NO is ranked #1 for UDFA class in 2016. A diamond in the rough awaits.

But there are always those guys that conventional football logic and reason do not match up to on the field. He has a great shot at being one those players.

He still has to make the team remember, give the guy a chance.

Re: Saints sign 2-time All American C/G

Love the sound of it and worst case scenario he either ends up as a reserve or maybe a year on PS. Sounds like a good find.

I think Turner will take some time to develop his pass blocking technique. He isn't real fluid, but I only watch limited film from the south carolina game. He can get ran around. He also bull dozed some players like 10+ yards down the field. Even if he takes two years to develop on the PS and/or roster it would still be a steal.

There is definitely some potential with these guys, but they also went undrafted for a reason. Going undrafted, however, doesn't mean you can't play. PT was undrafted, wasn't he? Wasn't Lance too?

And Colston was 3 picks from being undrafted.:)
Chris Ivory
Junior Galette
Khiry Robinson
PT
Lance Moore
Willie Snead
Raphael Bush (I think)
Delvin Breaux
Josh Hill
Austin Johnson
Tom Johnson
LeRoi Glover
Tim Lelito
Senio Kelemete
Glenn Foster
Bobby Richardson
Edebali

Jabari Greer was also undrafted and signed by Buffalo, I wish we had him from the start, he was a great player.

This could be the latest huge steal, right up with PT and Ivory. If nothing else it sounds like he would made a great 6th man and backup on the OL.
