UNDER PRESSURE: Saints Send Byrd a Not-So-Subtle Message
The 2016 Saints regular season will also be Year 3 of starting free safety Jairus Byrd’s huge six year contract that Mickey Loomis and the Saints gave him on March 11th, 2014.
That contract of course was for $56 million dollars, $28 million of it (as Saints fans will quickly remind you) which is guaranteed. However, with the selection of All-American and Ohio State safety Vonn Bell — whom the Saints made a Day 2 trade with the New England Patriots to move up to get — the Saints appear to have sent Byrd a not-so-subtle message: it’s time you give us some return on our investment. Re: UNDER PRESSURE: Saints Send Byrd a Not-So-Subtle Message
Wishing the best for Byrd this upcoming season. With the key FA acquisitions on the line, LB's, #1 draft selection & hopefully healthy corners ....
Ball hawking JB should have no excuse for 2016. Oh and #39 is no longer on the roster. |

Get healthy or get gone. No hard feelings.

Re: UNDER PRESSURE: Saints Send Byrd a Not-So-Subtle Message
Byrd may fly if he doesn't answer the Bell.

Re: UNDER PRESSURE: Saints Send Byrd a Not-So-Subtle Message
it may sound goofy but that pick Byrd had lined up on the crazy D. Walker TD would have got him going if the corner didn't knock him off the ball. It was basically in his hands.

I remember watching that play and never understood why one of them didn't concede to the other. That was definitely a game we should have won. If only we had gotten at least 1 stop in the 2nd half. |

Re: UNDER PRESSURE: Saints Send Byrd a Not-So-Subtle Message
They aren't giving him a hint of anything. He is obligated to another year and after that his stock falls no matter what happens in the future. I doubt they had any intention of resigning him anyway. Von will be ready to go by the time the contract is up. The Saints have all the leverage on Byrd now. No way he can try and argue a big extension. If anything he may get close to league minimum based on his age and injury status.

So far he has pocketed $28 million for doing nothing. I'm sure he's shaking on his roost!

We can run an effective three safety set. If we do well we have to decide whether to keep Byrd or draft another safety.

I dont it was subtle at all. Unless he gets back top a top 10 level FS he will get a post june cut

Re: UNDER PRESSURE: Saints Send Byrd a Not-So-Subtle Message
Some of it may be coaching but Byrd is too far away rom the play or when he is the slightest little juke throws him
In the colts game the receiver turned him around 3 times on his way to a td In the 2nd Panthers game he stood there on two touchdowns - 14 points including a wide open third and goal from the 17 Runs into lewis when he had an interception Coach him, judge him, ship him |
Re: UNDER PRESSURE: Saints Send Byrd a Not-So-Subtle Message
Vonn Bell replaces Byrd? I hope everyone is correct and Bell can play safety at the NFL level. In college he was used as a CB/S hybrid. 5'10" safety with lazy tackling habits does not give me the warm fuzzies at the pro level.
I just do not see Bell as a real threat to start as a true safety at the nfl level. Much the same as kenny. Both would appear to be toys to bounce around and drive QB nuts. Funny thing is if you could combine the two, Kenny toughness with Bells ball skills you might really have a special player. Still would be bit too short for my liking against the monster WR they will face in our division. But he has 3 years to prove me wrong. Who is going to the surprise safety in camp is what I am watching out for. |
