Remaining Veteran Free Agents Saints Could Target
The New Orleans Saints are now entering the next “phase” of their 2016 Off-Season, which includes this coming weekend’s Rookie Mini-Camp (May 13-15th), OTA offseason workouts (May 24-26th, May 31-June 2nd , and June 6-9th), and a mandatory Mini-Camp (June 14-16th).
With Free-Agency and the 2016 NFL Draft behind them, the Saints have addressed most of the “holes” on their roster; by adding former Indianapolis Colts tight end Coby Fleener three veteran linebackers that included former L.A, Rams All-Pro LB James Laurinaitis, and veteran defensive tackle Nick Fairley in free agency; and defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins and wide receiver Michael Thomas in the Draft. But — that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re done adding talent to the roster. They are still a few holes remaining on the roster, and there are also several NFL veteran free-agents out there who remain unsigned. The Saints have added veteran free-agents to their roster after the NFL Draft several times over the most recent years. In 2014, the Saints signed two veterans in June: center Jonathan Goodwin (who became the starter), and defensive tackle Brandon Deaderick (who became a part of the defensive line rotation). Last year, they signed a handful of five veterans, that included two of them who spent the entire season with the club: guard Mike McGlynn and defensive tackle Kevin Williams. So – are there any other additional veterans remaining out there that the Saints could target? This morning, we’re looking at a few possibilities, starting with this guy…. Louis Vasquez is a bit of a mystery. A few years back he was a hot commodity on the FA market. Now he is still out there. If there is some reason behind the scenes i do not know about, I do not get it. Here is a player with a Prove it Contract written all over him. Broncos signed OG Louis Vasquez to a four-year, $23.5 million contract. The deal includes $13M guaranteed. The Chargers claimed that retaining Vasquez was a priority, but they never proved it with a contract offer. San Diego let the second-best guard available hit the market and he strengthened a division rival. A top-13 overall guard last season according to Pro Football Focus, the 6'5/335 Vasquez is especially effective as a pass blocker. He'll be as asset in the Broncos' quest to keep Peyton Manning upright. An impressive Vasquez stat: In 3,435 career snaps, he has been called for just one penalty. Source: Pro scouts around the NFL reportedly "love" free agent RG Louis Vasquez. ESPN AFC West blogger Bill Williamson considered 25-year-old Vasquez the Chargers' "best offensive lineman" in 2012, and Pro Football Focus graded him as a top-13 overall guard. Vasquez, at 6'5/335, is a particularly effective pass blocker. He could be viewed as a better fit for left guard on the open market. Source: ESPN.com Thu, Feb 7, 2013 12:21:00 PM I just do not get it. Contract loaded with insensitive and bonuses ? I just do not get it. |

Panthers release cornerback Brandon Boykin - NFL.com
In my mind, BB is a very good nickel corner. To be released by the Panthers so early, something could be up with him. |
Re: Remaining Veteran Free Agents Saints Could Target
We will come away with another piece just like we did last year with Williams. There is some pretty good talent out there. The question is why are they available? Is it because of the cap? Have they lost that step or never lived up to their potential?
