We'll be playing in the Superdome until the entire city sinks. New Orleans is the most unique city in the United States. It was one of the largest slave ports in the United States. The blend of West African, French, Spanish, and Native American cultures is on full display in the city. The New Orleans accent is as distinctive as a Jamaican accent, and is actually just a distant cousin of it seeing how it too is bred out West African and French dialects. Even the bad things about New Orleans make it unique. The food. The 2nd lines. Mardi Gras. No city can top New Orleans.


My great grandma is in her 90's now. I remember when I had my son and brought him to meet her. Her great-great-grandson. How often does that get to happen? She'd tell me how she used to take care of me in the 9th Ward and how she'd put me in the swing so I wouldn't be so dependent on being held. In true New Orleans fashion she told me, "Now don't you spurl (spoil) that baby ya hear? I didn't spurl you, and look at you. I'm so proud of you."

I was for building a new stadium before all the renovations. Was willing to do my share either through taxes or donations. The main reason for me was having to deal with the infrastructure in New Orleans itself. Terrible Parking, long walks to get to the dome, trying to get out of there after a game, rip-offs, and general danger in the downtown area itself. Of course that doesn't matter now. Just a theory I was told that part of the Benson rift with his siblings is that they were siding with moving the team to San Antonio. It is bad to have deal with the NFL money machine yet the reality to me is if we do not build a new stadium in the future we could very well see the departure of the Saints.

It is one of the most recognizable structures in the US. It is the background(back bone) of the skyline.

Three points:

1. Love the Saints, but you're more than welcome to donate your disposable income for my portion, but don't vote to tax me to accommodate your inconveniences or shortcomings...
   
2. Pay attention to history, but it was Tom Benson who tried to move post-Katrina and the coward sent Rita out with Tagliabue to allay public fears after the NFL avoided the PR disaster...
   
3. The NFL gets tax shelters and anti-trust exemptions and extort, under threat of departure, municipal public funds for operational costs they obviously could absorb with their revenues...

And the traffic problems are not because of the Superdome, it's awful year round because of politically corrupt planning commissions and because Orleans and Jefferson Parish use the Interstate for local traffic; public funds have been mis-allocated (stolen) for other projects, like that monolithic eye-sore - Orleans Parish Prison which greets visitors downtown and is accentuated with a billboard above it in the skyline that advertises "Who's Your Daddy DNA Testing"...

The money should have been spent on local express ways and better public transportation...

Agreed, but New Orleans politics have always been corrupt. We got the Saints when it was corrupt. My Dad was in the Assessors Office growing up on Carrollton Avenue and I saw a lot in my early years. I won't tell you who my Dad was friends with but let me just say that they were more powerful than the Governor at one point.

The reason I mention this is to say that it's always been corrupt and always will be and that corruption will find a way to keep the Saints in New Orleans forever.

The population of New Orleans was about 580,000 in 1967 and decreased every year until 2006 when it started increasing again after Katrina. The population has increased every year since Katrina and now stands at about 400,000. The New Orleans Metro Area was 1,167,000 as of the 2010 census and most assuredly is 1,300,000 now and this population puts us about 500,000 to 600,000 behind Nashville and Indy but neither of those cities has the charm, character or history of New Orleans and never will. New Orleans is a Super City with a Superdome, host of many Superbowls and the Superest fans in the World.

The region has fought back after Katrina and showed it will never die. New Orleans will be raised above any increase in sea level. Relocating New Orleans would be like relocating the Vatican to Mecca. Just like relocating the Saints would rip the heart out of a region of rabid football fans. It just ain't gonna ever happen.

The Astrodome would've fit inside the Superdome. Too bad Houston saw fit to destroy a piece of history and the first domed stadium.

I can deal with pessimistic. We've been talking about the Saints leaving for, oh wait, FREAKING EVER and we will have at least at couple of years advance notice if it did happen. I don't see why worrying about it even if it was a remote possibility is sensible at all!

The Superdome is just another dome stadium
And a boring outdated one at that, no big deal

I would prefer an old dome to a place with glitzy penthouse suites

We don't have the corporate structure to support it either

The charm is the city, great food, walking distance to everything, people that welcome them with open arms, warm weather, revelry, parades, musicians, pagemtry

Who want to go to Minnesota?

Goodell probably had his goons pull the light switches
