Let's just hope that if Harper is playing, it's because of injuries. At this stage of his career, all I see is a spot player & blitzer at best.

I believe Coach Allen will stand behind what he says and play the best 11 men.

Harper can still hit and he can still blitz, good leader. Coverage is not his strong suit but good in the run game. Vaccarro hasn't lit it up so I can see Harper being back.

How's he supposed to light it up being in such a bad defense? Harper didn't exactly set the world on fire and he was in a good defense. You don't need to trash Vacarro to build up Harper, if you do then he can't be all that.

Those stats for Vacarro in a bad defense makes him great. Those stats for Harper in a good defense means he isn't anything special. He had lots of help. Thank you for proving my point.

I think Stephone Anthony will eventually step up to be the leader on this defense. He made major strides as a rookie last year, and having Lauranitis as a mentor is only going to help him even more.

It makes perfect sense. Harper had help. I'd bet everyone in that Carolina defense have similar stats. We know everyone in the Saints defense don't have those kind of stats. Vacarro had to do it all my himself. Like I said, there is no need to trash Vacarro to build up Harper. We know what Harper can do and we know what he can't do. The only thing he's got over Vacarro is experience. He should have more experience, he's been around longer. I just hope he's faster than a slug. And spare me the Vacarro is only slightly better than Harper because that's baloney too.

Locker room guy and player coach. They missed his leadership more than anything. He did have career years at Carolina so maybe we get lucky and get one good year of play.

Exactly.

My guess is that Dennis Allen will use a similar scheme to Gregg Williams with that in the box safety. Vaccaro is the new Roman Harper, and if Vaccaro gets hurt and misses a few games we can keep using the same scheme with Harper back in the box.

They're probably hoping Harris can become the back-up to Vaccaro, but if not we have Harper as a very capable back-up.

We sign 3-4 guys like this every year- a guy who missed an entire season, was a cap casualty, didn't fit the system, whatever. Hell, we've signed 5 this year. The question is always what do we give them up front?
We gambled and lost on Bailey (500,000), and Spencer, Chamberlain, Dan Morgan, etc. didn't work ,but we have done okay with some role players.
Every team takes a shot or two. The only noteworthy part here is that it is an ex-Saint

Veteren Leadership has been missed on the Defensive Squad the past few seasons ! I love the signing ! Y'all are crazy if you don't think Harper can make this squad he will be on the final 53 for sure...

He is Vaccaro's backup who will get playing time in certain packages. If Erik Harris can beat him out in camp then fine......but I just don't see that happening. I'm fine with this move.

I think this is maybe sign and retire but didn't he start for a great D last year? Great tackler and blitzer. Can't cover anyone in man D. I will laugh my behind off if he beats out KV. We drafted Vonn Bell and signed a good safety from Ole Miss. Good luck
