Bobby: Saints very competitive at practice today
Bobby Hebert said that he thought today was very competitive and he thinks that the offense and defense kind of played to a draw. "The last OTA the offense had the upper hand. But today I think things were even."
His notes were somewhat damp due to heavy rains, but that did not keep the Cajun Cannon from breaking down today's practice. "I thought today was about even, comparing offense to defense. I think both the offense and defense had their moments but I'd say it was even." QB Drew Brees connected with TE Josh Hill for a big gain. "Hill got open up field on a nice seam route and Drew placed the ball right on the money." Brees also had a nice toss to veteran WR Vincent Brown for a nice over the middle catch. And Brees would later throw a TD pass to rookie Wide Receiver Michael Thomas. Saints Running Back Mark Ingram made a nice over the shoulder grab and Brees would hook up with fellow RB Tim Hightower on a few connections. Re: Bobby: Saints very competitive at practice today
I really hope Byrd can contribute this year without being injured!

We'd need a Brees restructure to cut Byrd. |

It's really gotten old with the will he? won't he? Two plus seasons, cut bait and let the new blood play... They at least want to be on the field... You can't give players like Byrd guaranteed money... |

I'd like to see us keep Byrd and make him earn some of that money he stole.

Re: Bobby: Saints very competitive at practice today
You cant blame Byrd for being hurt. I blame the saints for continually picking up injured players in FA.

On the positive side, we've added Rankins, JL, St. Nick & Robertson that will be in front of him, not to mention a solid rookie season under the belt for Stephone. Circle back to that 09 season for a second ... Greer, Jenkins, Gay, Porter, McCray did a lot of heavy lifting, allowing Sharper to freelance & use his natural instincts. I think Byrd (when healthy) still have those same traits/ability & natural instincts. I'm expecting a HUGE improvement from JB this season. At the end of the day, I think Byrd will be better because our TEAM defense has improved (at least on paper) & will step up. Who Dat :bng: ! |

For an organization, it's always a dice roll when doling out the guaranteed cash to a proven player. But it's wishful thinking to believe that players who have previously proved their value will accept a "prove it" contract when hitting free agency. So saying that Saints should not have signed Byrd is one thing. However, there is no way to sign the guy without the guaranteed money because he had already proven his value. SFIAH |
Re: Bobby: Saints very competitive at practice today
It's pretty even between offense and defense. That sounds promising.

Re: Bobby: Saints very competitive at practice today
I remember last year and 2014 both Bobby and Hokie saying they didn't think there was any way this team would be 500 with the defense they saw in camp.
Nice to hear a different tune from a guy who has shown over the last 2 or 3 seasons that he doesn't wear B&G goggles. I own 2 dozen pairs.:p |
Re: Bobby: Saints very competitive at practice today
Although we are down a man (Kikaha), things are already shaping up on both sides of the ball. Lots of promise, talent and ammo in camp.
