Why even play next season?
 

Ok.

We haven't signed anyone yet. And according to just about everyone, we won't, because we never do. Or if they do, it is guaranteed they'll be a bust.

We've never brought in a FA that was worth anything during the entire Haz regime, so we never will. The only guy who is any good that we ever got is MM, and that is only because we HAD too; sheesh, we blow.

We are terrible in the draft, just look at Sully. After the first round, we never get anyone who is any good.

We never address areas of need in FA.

We have the same coaches (and I actually agree with this one), so what kind of improvement can we expect - NONE.

May as well just call it now. 0-16 next year. Yup. Anyone who thinks that we can be any good at all must be on crack.

We sucky, suck, suck.

Thank goodness there are so many around here who believe there is even a glimmer of hope!

Glad to have you as a Saints fan. Not. There is always a glimmer of hope and free agency nor the draft is over yet. At least we won\'t finish below .500 and in a weak NFC, there is always a chance of a miracle.

One last note on Sully, although he is a bust, he was rated at the second best DT at the time. Not only by us, but by many other teams and scouts.

I believe Darren Howard was a 2nd rounder and Montrae Holland a 4th rounder. Courtney Watson also was a 2nd rounder and Colby a 7th. Kenny Smith was a serviceable DT when healthy and he came in the 5 round. Gardner is still on the team and he was a 7th rounder.

Perhaps you should have a word with the guys around here who think all the things I wrote here? I\'d be careful though, they don\'t like guys who think that there may be something good around the corner, or under that rock, or in any one in the organization\'s head...

agree with papz. Also, grabbin\' Deuce when he had questions marks and also Charles Grant when everyone thought he was just a \"workout warrior\". BUt then on the other hand their is T-buck,Connell,Sullivan,Stinchcomb etc. So i would say they are batting about .500(very ironic)

I understand your frustration with \"some\" fans being negative about most everything. Then again, I can understand why \"some\" fans are negative about this team.

I try and be positive about things unless I\'m given a good reason to be negative. Right now, I\'m pretty negative about free-agency. But, it isn\'t over yet and it\'s no need to get all worked up about something that hasn\'t happened yet.

Some fans are going to bad-mouth this team until they go to the playoffs. That\'s just the way it is. But that stuff gets old pretty quick on a message board. I prefer not to be that way because I\'ve got much more important things to worry about other than how the Saints are going to stink it up.

As bad as this team might have been, they\'ve been on the cusp of making the playoffs every year. I have my own ideas of what they need to do in free-agency. But, if they only take care of offensive tackle and safety, I\'ll be happy. Can\'t fix everything!!!

Not only is it hope, it\'s even likely we could make the playoffs.

Wow. I think you are frustrated Kool and want to take that frustration out on someone, so I guess those who aren\'t enamored with doing NOTHING in free agency have to bear the brunt. Cool. I will. But maybe you should be frustrated with this team who does nothing to go that extra step to put this team on the right track. MAybe instead of defending at every turn, take a second and say Hey, they haven\'t done jack and I am pissed too, but I hold out hope, or whatever. But making some outlandish statements to belittle others pessimism I would have thought was below you. I guess not. School\'s in hey Gumbo? You got a new student. ;)

I don\'t recall ANYONE saying that, but again I feel your frustration is mis-directed. Usually when you have to go to this kind of extreme to make a point, someone has gotten the better of you in a disagreement. You are optimistic, as I have said 100x, great, but there\'s no need to make light of feelings others have that are opposite. But I guess this is where this goes now. I hope it got your point across. :shrug:

I am frustrated, but I am frustrated with two things: (1) I am frustrated we don\'t have a first rate LB in the fold already and that I haven\'t heard anything about an OT, and (2) I am frustrated with people telling me that any interpretation of the data, except the one that paints us as woeful losers, is the view of a crack addict. However, you are right in thinking that I\'m not so small as to take out my frustration on SOMEONE - which I didn\'t do. Thanks for volunteering though.

You will also notice, that I did not mention anyone\'s name in my post; actually, I didn\'t even have anyone in mind at all. I was merely venting about a particular view - one that maybe no one holds, for all I know. It wasn\'t directed at any person - unlike your\'s where you accuse me of being small and mean:

I don\'t see why you get to bash everything that anyone optimistic says around here. (Billy is not on crack, he\'s not here just to annoy people, he\'s not a mean spirited bad person, he sometimes gets a little worked up - but mainly he presents a different way of discussing the topic. If people really just want to come here and agree with everyone then people like Billy, and probably me, ought to leave. Does that sound like what would be best? If my thoughts on what the organization is NOT doing so badly, my views on which arguments are unfounded, my ideas about what might be going on are merely ticking people off, then someone ought to just tell me, and I\'ll try and get on board with merely posting \"I agree\" after every negative thing that is said - whould that be better?). You seem to think that anyone who defends this team (or even merely thinks the pessimistic side is overstated) is only entitled to \"I\'m an optimist\" as a response. Finally, I said 0-16. Do you guys want people to put words in your mouths? I didn\'t put that in any one\'s mouth. I made that suggestion as a sarchastic point against all the hating that I have to listen to here - day in and day out. Sure it is bad, but how bad is it? Is it 0-16 bad? I DOUBT ANYONE THINKS THAT, but I sure feel as though some people are expressing their ideas in a way that sounds about in line with that. How about some perspective. We were 8-8 with the guys we had last year - why would anyone think we\'d be WORSE if we didn\'t sign anyone? Certainly, we all want a SB, and certainly we aren\'t going to do it without some upgrades, but without a super star FA... maybe? Why not?

OK, I lied, here is one more thing: if you think the view that I presented here is false, instead of analyzing me, how about you say what is wrong with it, just like papz and FV did?

You know, those last four games were really something to be proud of. Sure, there are little reasons that can be picked apart as to why we won each (no Vick & Crumpler, Jake had a bad day, etc.), but at the end of the day, we finished the season on a pretty impressive run.

However, the 8-8 overall record - and no playoff appearance - undeniably signify that improvements still stand to be made. Free agency has begun, and thus far we have no real indication that any of those improvements are in the works. Understandably, this has caused frustration.

We can all peacefully coexist here. Deep down, most of us agree on the core beliefs. We want the Saints to win, the defense and O-line need improvement, etc. Sure, the last four games were a bright spot in an otherwise cloudy season, but it remains to be seen if the Saints will take the necessary means to build on those good things we saw.

We\'re all on the same side, folks. No need for us to fight amongst ourselves, when we all want the same thing in the end...

Now, let\'s all join hands and sing Kumbayah... ;)

A few things I think worth mentioning is that the NFC became weak if you will this past season... if they go out and turn it around they\'ll be dominate, in a mere few weeks.

The only things we can hope for is that the change in OC hopefully makes some difference and some of the players step up or develop to there potential finally.

I will certainly hope for that! Though, sadly, in this case, I\'m not that optimistic.

We can still get a Hartwell or a Witherspoon. Womack, among others, is still available at OT. We still have a possible Howard deal! I have hope... but it is both fading and being beaten from me.

You had to get the frustration from somewhere, maybe from the same person who TOLD you you were on crack for your beliefs. I still wanna see that. I\'d also like to see where I called you mean and small, or again is this another \"interpretation.\"

What times are those? When I disagree with you? But I see where interpretation has gotten us.

I explained why I used Gumbo in there, show me where I EVER said it before, cause surely I must have daily if you are \"sick of it.\"

I don\'t \"Bash\" anything or anyone but AB. I disagree when I see follishness from this team and don\'t just hope for things to change. I also disagree when someone tells me I should just smile and be happy when the team I care about doesn\'t seem to care for its fans. IT\'s like having a rich uncle on heroin, but he makes a lot of money. SO everyone says \"look how much money he makes,\" but noone wants to say how the heroin will destroy him and his life before too long. Well, I am the person he stands up and points at his heroin habit and calls him out. I am just in a position where I will believe things will be different when the team proves it is. They haven\'t so far. I would take bac every word if they showed me ANYTHING different.

I never said ANY of these things about Billy, although others have. I have had it out with him on more than one occasion, but I never called him names. I always questioned his motives for the things he did. I know others HAVE said these things about him though. I have just learned to accept him as he is, and live with it. At one point I thought he was a guy I would never like, but he ain\'t so bad. If you have seen where I said these things about him, i\'d like to see it.

When someone says, \"I have hope we will get something done. This person and this person and this person are still available, just wait and see,\" is that not optimism? What should I call it? That\'s optimism if I ever heard it. I have said 40 times, I am glad you are OPTIMISTIC about FA, that does not \"label\" you as only an optimist. Again, interpretation, or misinterpretation. Why is everything so personal with you?

To finish, you didn\'t have to make this about ANYONE in particular, but this statement sounds awful close to a misquote of what I said in the other thread we were disagreeing in, and about MM being a forced move. If it\'s not, I wonder who else shared this view, or expressed it as much as I did.

So instead of taking every statement as a personal attack on you, why don\'t you, as the smart guy I KNOW you are, look at what is being said. If someone says you are optimistic, they are not labeling you as strictly an optimist. If someone disagrees with you and believes strongly in what they are saying, it doesn\'t mean you are on crack cause you believe differently. And I need to \"calm down?\" Dude, put some armor around your feelings. Your interpretations only seem to lead you that everyone who disagrees with you is insulting you, and that is far from the truth.
