He's an ESPN hack who says that maybe after all the drafts and free-agency pickups, we still don't have it right on defense. He may be right... or wrong. So without proof he's just farting in the wind...

Unfortunately Bill Barnwell is one of the best out there.

Fair criticism, we've earned it...

But you look at this roster, and the talent we've accumulated, what is taken place...

...and as better-informed Saints fans here at Black & Gold than most Saints fans, we know the potential to turn things around quickly is legitimately there...

As far as the Talking Heads, let 'em disrespect and underestimate us, as that should help us fly under the radar for about six weeks...

I haven't been impressed with our D at all. They are singlehandedly responsible for us not being contenders. I hope I'm wrong about Allen or he may just get lucky with all the picks we have gotten in the last 2 drafts but in a deep playoff game I don't see him cutting it. I do think we have good talent on the D but bringing it out will be another thing. We'll see!!

Neither have I but let's flip it & see the bright side of what we can look forward to in 2016 (specifically defense):

A new defensive tackle
2 new safeties (one wiley vet)
3 new linebackers
3 fresh draft picks who are expected to make contributions early
2 draft picks from last season coming off a "redshirt" (PJ, show me what you got!)

But my favorite (brace yourself)... an aggressive yet simplified defensive scheme.

This is why I'm more excited about training camp than in years before. Hopefully the Saints make Bill eat his words ;).

I'm guess his rankings are based on what we actually know at this time.

We have several young players that could drastically change that ranking going into the 2017 season, but they haven't done it yet.

Two D Tackles

DE boom or bust 4th rd pick

Lots of safety depth

Better CB depth

LBs that can pass cover

Somebody has to set up and pressure the QB ????

DA is in and Rob is gone. +2 wins right out of the gate :)

lets see how this move effects the saints first before looking at the pieces.

I'm always optimistic at this time of year. Training camp is when realization slowly creeps in as to just how good we are.........or aren't. I don't usually have a clue how we'll play until after the preseason is over. Even then it usually requires a couple of games into the season to see if we can come out strong or rally the troops together.

I think the addition of Dan Campbell and the rest of the new coaches will help us set the tone early. If we can get leads early in games then the defense can pin their ears back and rush the passer while they play catch up ball. The early part of our schedule looks tough but if we can beat the Raiders our first game we have the potential to go to the playoffs with \out needing a wild card spot.

Depends on whose opinion you value and trust: An organization that brought the worst historical NFL franchise to a SuperBowl, or some reporter.

Maybe I'm dense but I don't understand this article. He says he's ranking the teams based on their best three defensive players but it's clearly weighted toward the overall defense's performance last season. What's the point of the trio concept then? Is he really saying that Jordan, Breaux and Laurinaitis are the second worst trio even though Jordan and Breaux are both performing at elite levels?? Real head scratcher here.

I hope expectations are not too high stat wise for our first round rookie. Just don't get knocked off the line of scrimmage every down and control the running lanes and it will be a huge step from last season.

Currently in hold my breath mode. I am hopeful these guys can turn it around. I think the talent is there they just have to come together. It was painful the last few years watching the defense. You could just about predict what was coming next as there inability to stop anything was so glaringly obvious. Made all the teams we played look like super bowl contenders. It could have been much worst if not for the offense staying close in these games. It has got to be better or it will be more of the same this year.

Right or wrong the worst D in the NFL is not going to win anyone individual praise.
