The student snatched the pebble from the master's hand. Sneaky Ryan Pace.

I think it may have been a play to divert other teams attention away from someone they really want.

Connor Shaw would have been a solid snag

Why? Worth a look to see if he might be able to compete for backup to the clipboard holder? Yeah. I wouldn't classify it as a solid snag, though. He is nothing more than one of about 30-40 QB's with no shot of ever being a starter that will most likely not make the final cut or may sneak on to a practice squad somewhere.

This might be why SP brought up carrying 4 qb's.

The guy was a leader in SC and willed that team to a 27-5 record in three seasons. Without him they do not win 27 games. And they have not had a 10-2 season since.

Learning behind Brees and having that leadership would have been huge. Too bad he won't learn much sitting behind Cutler.

But what happened in Cleveland?

The Browns cut him.

He was not NFL ready, his style worked in college. He had no one to learn from in Cleveland. Leadership in that place does not matter. Cleveland's lacked talent.

Cleveland has been a train wreck! Drew Brees himself couldn't turn that franchise around

Simple answer - Bad media and front office management. No need to send an email blast of intent. Now the Saints look stupid... but Conner Shaw isn't as big a deal as the Saints made ANY news worth reporting today.

Doubt he would amount to much learning behind anyone if he is simply waiver wire fodder.

Re: Connor Shaw.

solid addition in the way of a prospect to possibly spend time grooming. They have RG3, Kessler, McCown, Austin Davis all still on the roster

Cleveland is to the point of dumping a lot of players that really make no sense really. They let players walk away that made no sense also. Alex Mac jumps to mind.

This is a team were the new coach and FO are in to big of a rush to make this team theirs and get ride of the old regime.

Plus this team needed a major shake up

You are assuming that he would even make Chicago's roster. What makes you think that is possible?

I keep reading that we sent an email to the 31 other teams instead of the league office. I hope they fired that clerk or if someone important sent the email shoe they be fired?

Re: Connor Shaw.

there are about 5 different points of speculation in this report, all of which are irrelevant

starting with Tabb:
we do not have the depth elsewhere to carry a 4th TE. He would have had to have had a helluva training camp to push any of the top 3. And since we were ready to part with him in July, I'm guessing he didn't exactly shine in OTA's

Saints are pursuing a 4th QB:
when did a 4th qb even become a thing? We'll be lucky to hide GG for another year; where do you put a 4th guy? If he is on PS and someone goes after him, you can't keep him anyway

Connor Shaw:
undrafted, and has played 1 game in two years, so...who cares? highly doubtful that he will be on anyone's roster in 2016

Brees' tutelage:
Well, we certainly haven't seen the benefits of that yet: Chase Daniel, Palko, Canfield, Griffin, Grayson. I'm not saying that these guys haven't succeeded because of Brees. I'm saying that there has been zero proven success of anyone Brees has mentored.
