You guessed it
The Mel Kiper pick is in for the Saints Quote:

I don\'t think they ever intended on getting an offensive lineman for the first pick. My gut is telling me DJ is coming to the fold. ;)

DJ wiill not be there at 16. the only way we will get him is if we trade up. After DJ their is no other LB worth the 16th pick, we do not need to reach for a LB. Our need at OT is just as bad as the need at LB.

Well I\'ve been saying all week that I think the Saints will attempt a trade, so that comment was with the implication that the Saints will trade up. I think everyone on this board can agree that DJ is a top 10 pick for sure.
If they stay put at 16 though I would like them picking Brandon Browner. |

With thier first selection in the 2005 NFL Draft, The New Orleans Saints choose......
Thomas Davis , Safety from Oklahoma University Word for Word...haha |

I wouldn\'t be totally upset at that selection, but not an offensive lineman....I don\'t think this is the year for that, not when we already signed one FA and possibly another one on the way.

I don\'t think there is any reaching for DJ. Reaching is picking someone too early when he can be had later. Picking DJ any later than 3 would not be a reach. I think what you mean is don\'t overpay to pick. If we gave up all of our picks this year plus 3 next year to the Browns, that would be overpaying, but not reaching.
If we had the idea you have on Munoz we wouldn\'t have picked Deuce or Montrae Holland. |

Well I don\'t think Rolle will be at 16 but he would be my first choice of course. I think he is a bona fide top 10 pick, and getting him that late would be a steal(posted this in another thread).
Brandon Browner will be a first round pick....early second at the latest. [Edited on 7/3/2005 by GoldenTomb] |

I think its pretty obvious what the saints are going to do in this draft. They are going to draft what they think is the best overall athlete/player available when they pick.

That technique works for teams like the Patriots , but when the Saints come up to the podeum they need to put talented bodies in that swiss cheese defense , to plug the holes , not pile up around the holes . [Edited on 7/3/2005 by saintz08] |

Guys, I hate to be the one to have to tell you all this, but put DJ out of your minds. With the way this team picks it\'s more likely that they trade four picks to move up 3 spots and nab a TE before they make a move to get a LB.

It has been there draft stradegy for years now... its how we got Deuce even. Ya draft the best availabe period and you find ways to get them into the game. With the cap coming into play before you know it that best available player will end up starting ect. I am not saying its right or wrong but its there stradegy.
In a lot of ways I like it... its the same principal if you draft number one, and you are in rebuilding mode. Lets say you need a QB and there isn\'t any QB going to be the stud you need. So you go FA and then you draft the best player say a RB. Pats you win a championship and you have the last pick, you draft best available. Its the safest pick, picking that late in the round. |
