That's a tough one - Brees is one of those rare cases where you almost would rather bite the bullet and see him finish out his career with the Saints even if it entailed overpaying him and suffering the impact that has on the roster overall.

It would brake my heart seeing him play for another team, but that might be what next year has in store for us.

It depends when they mean?

If they are talking about this season then we'd be lucky to win 3 games without Brees

If you give me 2 first round picks and we send Brees next season then I'd consider it.

Broncos could never do this, because they'd be worried about Drew leaving in free agency after this season. It'd be suicide. Maybe a sign-and-trade like they do in the NBA but I don't think that ever flies in NFL.

First, trade Brees this year and we are on the hook for 30 million, so we either start McCown, the guy we get in trade, or whomever will play for the 1.6 m in cap we have left
Second, we cannot trade him next year because he is not under contract.
If he were to sign a new deal and then get traded, we would probably still be out about 20-25 million (SFIAH check my math) in guaranteed money

i just watched it and it wasn't cowturd it was the other guy. Two first round picks are not enough for drew. this would require a herschel walker type trade to even be considered.

Would be a dumb move.

Brees is going to play at a good level for 4 more years. We need to lock the guy up sooner rather than later. Also, even if he plays this year without a new contract it's not certain that he'll be a free agent, we could still sign him after the season.

2 first round picks, geesh! I like Drew, that will be awful tempting. I just don't see how they can afford making a offer to Drew without killing our cap. Drew say he have a lot more years in him but I see at the most 2yrs. 40 is the big number that concern me

If Brees cap figure sits anywhere between $20-25ml its not killing the cap

Whats killed the cap of late has been Byrd,Spiller,Galette, Hawthorne,Bunkley and Lofton deals

You are falling into the trap of comparing today to the past. The average QB from as recently as ten years ago was in far worse physical shape than the players at the same position today. Brees has been at the cutting edge of this trend. Today Brees at 37 is in better physical condition than the vast majority of players at thirty ten years ago. At 40 he will still mostly likely be better fit than players ten years younger ten years earlier.

Brees has repeatedly said he plans to still be playing at a high level well into his forties, and there is nothing that he has said or done that would make me not believe in that prediction.

They would have to give up a hell of a lot to get him I just don't see it happening. They just came off a SB win. I don't see selling the farm for one maybe 2 more runs at it. And then if you don't get it you set your team back 10-20 years.
