I think you are going to see alot of these debth players swapping around a good bit this year. Seems they are back to running a simple scheme but giving different looks by switching players in and out arbitrarily. I think all these guys will get their playing time.

Someone asked Nick Underhill if Keenan Lewis had a setback and Nick at least confirmed it:

As mentioned earlier, if he's not ready by end of preseason we would be better just cutting ties.

The guy obviously can't stay healthy now.

I've got an additional option - give back the guaranteed money, you haven't played even half a season since.

Dont think thats fair at all. We have seen him fo everything to play through injuries. Was it the 49ers game when he came out on nearly one leg and was still competitive all game. If you have not been through your body betraying you its hard to get just how frustrating it is for the person. I still cant run after being sick last year. If i tried anything more than a fast walk my legs would giveway under me. Me knees are a mess from 25 plus years of playing soccer on turf and hard frozen pitches. Its horrible when you cant physically fo what you are capable off not because of age but from your body not able to take the strain through sickness or injury

Westbank has been fun to watch...

But for the team, franchise the Saints would be better cutting ties and moving on if health is in a degenerative state...

Better to have four-five-six defensive backs playing together consistently than reassigning roles on a week-to-week basis...

Said earlier this offseason that I wasn't confident in his ability to get back to the field, healthy...

Very soon, we'll learn what we've already deduced, expected...

Nick is a credible writer so I could believe this (IR) report on Lewis. I'm all for the young guys stepping up but essentially outside of Swann & Dixon, we have no experience at the position. It's too bad we lost Kyle Wilson earlier in mini camp.

Can we talk Peanut Tillman into coming out of retirement & work with the young guns at camp (sarcasm) ?

Expect the Saints FO to bring in a seasoned veteran.

Not sure we'd have the room anyways as we have five (5) maybe six (6) spots available for cornerbacks...

LCB (3) 40 - Delvin Breaux, 27 - Damian Swann, 49 - De’Vante Harris, 37 -

RCB (2) 25 - P.J. Williams, 46 - Ken Crawley

21 - Keenan Lewis would be your sixth (6) with him PUP or IR-Designated

And make no mistake, Crawley and Harris are making this team...

And you STILL have 20 - Brian Dixon who's an excellent gunner and solid spot-starter...

Lot's of praise from Coach Payton however he is essentially a rookie.

Re: Joint Practice with Patriots

I'm not against Lewis going on IR this early. Maybe he comes out next year healthy as a horse and if he can't then it's not much of a decision in letting him go. The one I'm worried about is Swann and his concussions, I'm not counting on him to stay healthy an entire season. 16 games and a possible run to the big dance is alot to expect from him. Maybe we got real lucky with Crawley and Harris, but only game play will tell.

Terrible what happened to Lewis. Was really excited to see he and Breaux on the field together and healthy.

Why on earth should he? One reason they give players guaranteed money is to insure them that they are going to be paid regardless of injury. Its the whole point. Teams use it as a selling point to attract free agents and whatnot. It's not like the Saints didn't know this could happen going into this contract. It's not Greers fault, or Byrds. It's their money and they earned it. It sure as he'll isn't your money.

i could be wrong, but I think people are saying that because he threw a fit about wanting more of it guaranteed and then came out and got hurt that season.

I am not agreeing or disagreeing with their or your perspective, just analyzing the idea behind the comment

When Westbank showed his @$$ last season during the draft, whining about not getting his guaranteed money, I felt something was amiss then...

Anytime a player goes off like that, and is uncharacteristic for that person, it should have given the front office pause to step up and guarantee money...

What good would his giving money back to Tom Benson do for the Saints? The contract is in place and the cap hit is a given. You ask why can't they just re-do the contract? Because the league has to approve every contract and there is no way that would fly.

I often wonder if the attempt to sign Josh Norman this off season means that the Saints FO knew about Lewis injury for quite some time, no?

Thoughts?

He's made spectacular plays nearly every day. So far he's our 2nd best CB in camp

I think we have very capable debt behind him too. Would like to see a vet but we are light years away from last year. I think Swann is done though. Too bad coz he has heart.

Not trying to be contentious, but why?
Previous head injuries?
Or did I miss something lately?

Re: Joint Practice with Patriots

CB now looks like a position of depth (yeah, its just preseason)

If early reports are right, Breaux, Williams, Swann, Harris, Crawley will still be one of the best CB groups we've had in like forever.

The head injuries. As much attention as the NFL is giving them puts him under a microscope. He's already been banged up a bit this camp too. I hope not because I love him.
